PRS-950 Sony Daily Edition at Best Buy for $199

After breaking my beloved PRS-505, I've been looking for a replacement. The PRS-350 was too small for my taste. I almost bought a refurb 950, but they were out, as was the Sony Rewards store.

Lucky that I waited -- Best Buy has the Daily Edition (PRS-950) for $199.

Thought people might like to know.

Nah, they probably just sold all their stock that's why it's now gone from their website.

To my fellow members:

I did manage to pick up a 950 for $199 the other day and could be persuaded to sell it to you for the same price (including tax). You'd have to either meet me or pay for shipping, but either way, I can probably help you out.

I haven't opened the box yet, but I doubt anything is wrong with the 950; if there were, I'd take it back. So far as I can tell, the thing is pristine, though I could certainly open the box and check before sending or handing it to someone else.

It's possible I'll keep the 950 for myself, but I've intended to pick up a black 650 and was just about to arrange for a case to be made when I spotted the 950 for $199.

I just couldn't let another item beloved by people like us go on sale only to be harvested by vultures.

If a mobileread member with more than twenty posts has been fiending for a 950, feel free to send me a private message and I'll see what I can do. If you happen to live in New York, so much the better.

Otherwise, I suppose I'll now own all three sizes of reader and revel in the flexibility. It's more logical for a person who owns a Kindle 3 to choose the 950 anyway.

One last thing: People who missed picking up a new Daily Edition for $199 can grab a refurbished one for $239 at the Sony Store.

Those who want a Daily Edition with the official lighted cover for $259 may buy them here. One caveat: That model of the Daily Edition appears to be the earlier 900 and not the 950. Be sure you check carefully first before pulling the trigger.

Went into our Best But tonight & the Sony 950 was on sale for $199.99. They had 3 left. So check out your best Buys to see if they have them.

That's probably a good idea, Pomtroll, since the more remote the location, the likelier it is they might still have one. Glad you found yours.

Mine was literally the last 950 at the last store in New York. I made them check every store before traveling a few hundred blocks further than I expected. I had to take it out of the box and check it just to confirm there was no particular reason it was still available. (There wasn't; the thing is in perfect condition and also works perfectly. I love the screen size, which is the ideal combination of portable and page-long. You could give readings using this thing instead of a hard copy, which I plan to do if I decide to keep it. The wi-fi's handy as well.)

I didn't buy one. I have a dog who needs possible surgery. So I'm saving for that. Plus I don't really need another wifi reader. I'm satisfied with my 350 & really can see no reason for a 950 since I don't read newspapers or magazines on my reader.

I thought that myself and was ready to sell my new PRS-950 to someone who missed out on the deal.

Then I opened the box to make certain the device was cosmetically pristine, checked the Wifi/3G and transferred a few books, pdfs and original pieces to make sure everything worked.

I ended up using the 950 at two readings instead of physical paper. That's going to happen a lot from now on because page view on a 950 is a far more complete experience than on a K3 or 350.

A DX would have been too big for my bag. The 950 is perfect. All I need now is an HMCurrier case with a slot for my eLuminator2 -- that or something like the Solis or Arc.

I went into my local Best buy to take our TV in for service and they have one unit left, marked at $199 clearance.

I was sorely tempted to get it since it was the last one. Had I not just purchased a new 650 two weeks ago to replace my broken one, I may have.

I decided that I should not get it for multiple reasons.

1) I just bought a new 650

2) I don't really want a larger screen than a 6" as it would not fit well in my bag

3) I don't think we need yet another ereader in the house. We already have 2-505s, 1-600, 2-300s, a 650 and two 1st Gen iPads.

4) I don't want to upset my wife by making another unnecessary purchase that we can't afford.

It's really a lovely ebook reader, so happy using mine.
