Ebooks in Portuguese!

For those that like to read in Portuguese (and specially in European Portuguese) i have the wonderful news that the biggest editorial group in Portugal (Porto Editora) just started selling ebooks in its virtual store! http://www.wook.pt

The format chosen is ePub. I am very glad that i am able now to buy and read Portuguese books in non public domain. Yay!!

For those interested in portuguese language books, there is also another ebookstore http://www.mediabooks.com/.

For Books in Brazilian Portuguese i know of Gato Sabido, but probably there are more bookstores. Any brazilian ebook reader interested in showing us some more sites? We portuguese would be infinitely grateful!

Unfortunately both wook and mediabooks sell DRM-protected books only.

I'll stick to paper books for the moment.

Hello

Once again they are shooting themselves in the foot.

The total list of “fiction” eBooks in Wook today is 21, and the prices are a joke.
Take an example: “A Questão Finkle” is priced a 15,84 euros for the paper version and 14,50 euros for the eBook version! That’s just 8,4% less than the price of the paper version.

At least in Mediabooks (Leya’s website) the eBooks, even if it's almost in so small quantity as in Wook, the eBooks are priced at around 75% of the paper price and if one buys the paper version can also buy the eBook version paying just 2,49 euros more (http://www.mediabooks.com/faq/?faq=4).

Well… at least it’s another option… even if ridiculously in quantity offering and bad priced… one year ago we had almost nothing at this level!

Best regards,

I believe things will change as the format is adopted by more readeers in Portugal. Not a lot of people will buy ebooks if the price is similar to paper books, except those really early adopters that value the same way both formats. My guess is that they are either probing the market for acceptance for this price policy or simply yet no aware of the sensibility of the public to this issue.

The Leya approach is very interesting and i think might be something to adopt by the other publishers in the future, though i prefer to pay less and have an electronic copy only.

I must confess i did not catch the part of shooting themselves again... i am pretty sure they had no ebook store before...

while it looks like Pulo Cohelo "gave in" (though there are still books available for download, but he'd like you to buy a copy too) - as far as I can remember, the original "Piratecohelo" page had books in Portuguese for free, and those in other languages available, too, though he'd ask people to buy copies to protect the work of the translators.

It would help if Sony would give us a Portuguese-English dictionary, instead of ... say ... Dutch!
