Just so long as it isn't 'Scratch-out!'

But I have a vent to make too! I just discovered that my gas cap is broken. There are spring loaded clips that lock the cap into the tank, and apparently one of the springs broke. It did that because one of the little screws that hold the cap assembly seems to have DROPPED INTO THE GAS TANK! So now I have to empty the tank and find the screw before it wanders into the fuel delivery system, and replace the cap too! Bother!

Is it a magnetic screw? You can put one of these telescopic magnetic picky uppy thingys in the tank and get it out.

Know any good magnets for brass?

The good news is that I went to the shop today and the head mech told me that this tank has a domed micro-mesh filter at it's outlet. Nothing the size of a match head could get through, (it's a much larger screw) so unless I hear the rattle of the screw and it bothers me (unlikely as I'm stone deaf,) it makes more sense to leave it in rather than draining the tank, removing the tank, and trying to get it out.

The bad news is that a new gas cap for this bike will cost me $60 USD...
On the bright side, he did say that he would install it for free...

Pretty bad. But at least it's just the cap.

A month back I noticed that my car's fuel cap wasn't sealing properly (I would find fuel dripping from it after filling up and going around corners). Unfortunately, it wasn't the fuel cap, it was the connector at the end of the pipe. And the connector and the pipe are one part. Replacement fuel pipe and connector required — £200 including labour. :-(

Just don't use one of these to help you see inside the tank...

How about draining the tank and using a stick with a big lump of blu-tac or similar on the end to pick up the screw?

O.K.... and you can trust me on this... Just wait a bit. I promise that soon enough you will no longer be 'just a kid.' Soon you'll be an adult, perhaps a wife and can complain about your husband, a mother and you can complain about your kids, a worker who complains about her boss. Isn't it wonderful that you have so much to look forward to?

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought about that, but just draining the tank and turning it upside down would probably do the trick too. But my mech said not to even bother. The screw is light enough not to damage anything, and the mesh screen at the outlet won't let it pass through to the fuel valve. I certainly won't hear it move around. Besides, I'd worry that any remaining gas might dissolve some of the Blu-tac. That might make things even worse.

We haven't had a credit card in a while but my father wanted to get one for the new bank account of our store. He wanted to wait a while and not apply for it immediately but he keeps putting it off. Now that I want a Kindle I need a credit card so I've been hinting the last week.

Today he told me he wanted to wait another month before applying because he thinks he has more chance of getting one. The problem is that he's been saying he'll apply next month for the past three months. So I proposed a comprise; he'll ask the bank when he can apply for a credit card for our business account. He agreed and promised to go to the bank on Monday. It wouldn't surprise me if he can apply for it immediately, since we now have a debit card machine and thus a regular income on that account.

However, chances are that he changes his mind so I'm looking into getting Amazon gift cards by other means.

I wish you could get pre-paid credit cards in the Netherlands!

At least your situation isn't like one fellow I was told about. He heard people were bringing their Harley gas tanks in to the sandblasting shop and sandblasting them, so he thought he'd do the same with his Honda gas tank. Big mistake. The tanks on the Honda bikes (at least at that time) weren't metal.
