1814: The men at Eidsvoll agreed "until the Dovre Mountain falls down". Norways constitution day. Norway declared independency form Denmark-Norway (a union enforced by Denmark since 1380). Denmark answered by "giving" Norway to the Swedes. Although Norway still was not truly independent, the union with Sweden were a little "looser". (And Norway became truly independent 07th June 1905, albeit we had to "import" a King from Denmark since our King heir died in 1200-something) |

Motorola and Verizon have finally stopped teasing us and have made the Droid X2 official. This is a 4.3-inch Android (2.2, to be upgraded to 2.3) smartphone with a qHD screen resolution and a dual-core 1GHz processor. An 8 megapixel camera with continuous autofocus and HD video recording graces the back. The X2 will cost the usual $200 on contract and will be available to buy online on May 19th, before making its way out to stores a week later, on May 26th. Leap past the break for the full PR. 1988 - Birth of Lily Cole .... 1649 – An Act of Parliament declaring England a Commonwealth is passed by the Long Parliament. England would be a republic for the next eleven years. 1749 – King George II of Great Britain grants the Ohio Company a charter of land around the forks of the Ohio River. 1780 – New England's Dark Day: A combination of thick smoke and heavy cloud cover causes complete darkness to fall on Eastern Canada and the New England area of the United States at 10:30 A.M. |
