Font, ScreenSaver & USBNetwork Hacks for Kindle 2.x, 3.x & 4.x - Page 118

Hey guys, im a bit confused as to which files i should use. i have a K2 (US) im on 2.3. now can i update straight to 2.5.8 then jailbreak or do i update to something in the middle, jailbreak, then install 2.5.8 (and still retain the jailbreak)? i want to be able to register too as it is still unregistered and i am not in the US.

i want to follow these instructions from registering. or if there is a better way. please point me in the right direction.

Yes, the other fonts will be untouched.

Hi NiLuJe, first off thanks for your efforts.
I'm trying to install the screensaver hack and can't get it to work. Installed yifanlu jailbreak (0.4 k3gb) and updated software, installed your screensaver hack (0.22.N.k3gb) and updated software. According to the readme files I should then be able to see a *linkss/screensavers* folder when my K3 is connected ..... but I can't see this (have checked all the sub folders). I'm running a mac but not sure if that's important?!?!
Please help

EDIT :: SCARP that I reinstalled the screensaver hack and got the default screensaver to work (the one entitled you can delete me), once I deleted that from the kindle though all I get now is a blank screen .....

Quick question.... I have a K2i on FW 2.5.8 that many months back was successfully jailbroken and and screensaver hacked and is working great, but I was digging around (thinking of doing other things

) and came across 2 update bin files (Update_Kindle_2.5.7_B003 and Update_Kindle_2.5.8_B003) that somehow ended up in my linkss folder. Can I (should I) delete these?

@GoSharks: You can, they're just backup done by the hack when it finds non-hack .bin files

Adamski101:

You need to add your own screen savers to the directory where you found the "you can delete this". If you have, you might need to be sure they are in an acceptable format.

My K3W (ad-free) shipped with 3.2.1, and I seem to be unable to install either the 0.7N jailbreak or the Fonts hack. I get the U004 error when installing the jailbreak, and the fonts hack returns with a U007 error. I'm new to Kindle jailbreaking (though by no means a n00b), but as I understand it this means nothing worked.

Any ideas as to how I could get this working? Much appreciated!

@iPodZombie: Can't say for sure, but it looks like 3.2.1 broke/fixed the current jailbreak.

None the less, sorry if I missed it, but I don't have time to read through all the posts to find out if there is a way to get the "random" function to work. I have a blank txt file named "random" in the appropriate folder, but no joy after restarting.

NEVERMIND! Copied the "auto" file and renamed it "random". Winner!

Hi， can anyone help me ?
my device is K3 wifi only. And the version of K3 is 3.2. Can i use this JailBreak which is only for kindle 3.1.
Another question:if someone install JailBreak, then there K3' version update 3.1 to 3.2 or 3.3 .... can it works normally then？

What were you expecting?

Replace the deleted file with a screensaver of your choice.

Just wondering if installing Jailbreak on your Kindle 3 will consume more power? I have a Sandisk MP3 player that I installed a custom bios and it's using more power since it has more features.

AFAIK, the jailbreak has no effect on Kindle battery life. However, using hacks that depend on the jailbreak may affect the battery life.
