Be vewy vewy quiet...
No, I'm not hunting wabbits.
But one little fluffy white bunny wabbit is nibbling on some lettuce less than 2m from me right now as I write this. ![]() I don't have any pics right now but trust me, he's small, adorably cute, completely white (except red albino eyes), long-eared and extremely fluffy. I got him (sort of) today. My folks went on a trip the country to buy some quality homegrown potatoes and the woman that grows them happened to also have a litter of adorable little bunnies, and my folks found them so irresistible they borrowed one to take it home to show it to me and bring it back after a couple of days (they aren't really that much animal lovers to want to live with one permanently)... The problem is my dad told me that the owner of the rabbits only raises them for food, and now I can't give it back because I'd be bothered by a guilty conscience too much, having sent a poor little bunny to his death (well not immediate as he's still too little, but eventually for sure). My folks see no problem in this, after all animals are there to be eaten by us, and he still has some time to live comfortably, but I don't exactly subscribe to this logic, and feel as giving him back would make me an accomplice to murder (well I'm not a vegeterian definitely, but I never kill animals). The old woman that raises the rabbits has no problem giving them away (she already gave one away for a pet) but the problem is I wasn't exactly looking for a pet. I'm almost 27 and have other things to take care of right now in my life, and a pet demands a significant amount of time to look after properly (I know that from personal experience having had pets before), and I don't want to simply stick him in a box and forget about him. Besides I'd need to invest in a proper cage and equipment, but really the time is the most expensive to me. So I figured I'd pass him on to someone else, a true animal lover with time to spare. There's a girl who a friend of mine told me about who already had a rabbit (so she must know how to take care of them) and had a room just for the rabbit ! ![]() But I haven't yet decided for sure, I want to look at him and have some fun with him for a couple of days probably. So I had to secure him for the night, make sure he doesn't get out and crap all over the place, gnaw on electric cables or fall from the balcony, so I took a clothes-drying metal mesh and a potato bag (which is like a net) and put them over the entrance to the large plastic paint bucket he came in (the metal mesh as a door and the potato net so he doesn't slip between the bars). So now he has air and some light and I can still see him but he's secured for the night, and he's comfy on a bed of grass in his little nest. The point is I feel exhausted like I haven't felt in a long, long time, and every muscle in my body hurts (I forgot to mention chasing the rabbit all over the living room and under various couches for an eternity before putting him to bed) but in spite of that, when I hear him nibbling on the lettuce, I feel pure happiness because he's taken care of and happy. That must be what parenting is like, you take the pain and torment and hard work and in the end you feel happy as long as they're happy... ![]() |

Yeah - I've been going through a similar experience with my new kitten. I had forgotten the last time I brought a kitten home I was 10 year younger!
So I've spent the last 2 weeks constantly "on alert" - listening for noises or too much silence, jumping up constantly to see where she's gotten to, worrying that I've forgotten to "kitten-proof" something that will hurt her, etc. It is TOTALLY exhausting. But I wouldn't give her up for anything! Hang in there - and use your improvised hutch as needed. I converted a large dog crate into a kitten play pen. Sometimes we all need some "down time." And yeah - don't they look cute when they're sleeping! |

Besides, giving away the bunny to that bunny lover is the best thing for him too, as she has more room for him then I do, and she'll take care of him better. And finally, ex-pet visitations could be a great opportunity for some cross-gender socializing with the new owner, if you know what I mean. ![]() P.S. Thanks for the karma P.B., though I didn't really intentionally rescue him, I just got him as a random loaner and now can't bear to give him back and see him become rabbit stew... |

Sorry guys I haven't been here in a while, I was too busy with everything around the rabbit and then with the preparations for my birthday and then with various other things.
![]() First of all, thanks Terminator and Geoff for the birthday congrats ![]() ![]() Secondly, as for the rabbit (and the ice-breaker) things didn't work out exactly as I planned (things never seem to work out like you plan in life, noticed that ? ![]() According to my friend who's sister is the friend of the rabbit-lover girl she didn't want another rabbit because she got too emotionally attached to the last one and then missed him too much when he died ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As for the rabbit, seeing as that option failed, and I couldn't keep it, I had to think of a new solution. So basically, I gave the cute little white bunny ![]() ![]() As for the pics Snake and others wanted, I took a bunch of pics and videos of the bunny while I had him, some of him exploring my house and nibbling on the potted plants, some of him grazing in the park and being petted by the local kiddies (and you just can't decide who's cuter, the kiddies or the bunny ![]() ![]() |

Btw, the line beneath your nickname makes me wonder what it takes to make that happen... ![]() ![]() For now, here is a cute baby hedgehog pic from a year and a half ago (sorry the quality is not very good, a friend of mine took a couple of pics with her cheap phone camera and this is the best one) : ![]() I found this little guy in the garden of the house of a friend of mine (I heard rustling and nibbling sounds and went to investigate) when I went there for a little get-together with my friends, and I took him up to show him to them, and we took some pics, and petted him a little (he was really calm). Then I took him back to the garden and left him in the same dark corner where I had found him with a piece of apple, and later when we had "disbanded" and I was going home I passed by that place again and heard some chewing sounds again. Probably the baby hedgehog lived in that garden or around it with his mom and siblings... Now this next pic is not mine but from the web (but it's so cute you have to see it), and it's not the same species, this is an exotic pygmy hedgehog (they don't grow much bigger) : ![]() Now is that irresistibly cute or what ?
