FYI, for anyone interested. Per the insurance structural engineer, they think that the reason that our house held together is the weird construction. It is ALL tongue-and-groove hardwood.

We pulled up carpet and found the beautiful hardwood floor underneath. Put on a new roof, and find the under roof was solid hardwood boards. Gut the bathroom, and find solid wood underneath. Anytime I hanged a picture on the wall, a pilot hole had to be drilled into that hard hard wood. The closet we were in was specially reinforced, with a bench to sit on behind a thick wooden section.

The engineer thinks that all of the tongue-and-groove was able to slide around and "flex" enough to save us.

Tim's brother intends to salvage as much of the wood as possible. The walls are OK, relatively speaking, but the floors and roof are all warped from rain. He will be able to lay down some beautiful floors in his house.
