Of course I know what they mean. I'm the one who is always trying to explain these things to blank faced patrons in the computer aisle.

Uh no... I'm 25 years old. I was just asking for clarification. No need to get stuck up about it.

GHz and RAM are simple to explain and if you do it right you could educate those less fortunate.

I didn't think that it needed clarification. If you say (or write) something that goes: "the average consumer [...]" and someone asks "do you?", this can only mean "do you [...]?". As this is a concept that is usually explained in primary schools, I could only assume that you haven't finished that level of education.

P. S. And yes, now I'm being stuck up about it.

You underestimate the average consumers' level of ignorance.

If I was one of those people who didn't know what these terms meant, logically I would have started the next sentence with "we" instead of "they".

I am a high school graduate who is now attending college, TYVM.

I have to say I've had a great experience with my Toshiba Satellite and so have all my friends. The only thing I don't like about them is that they utterly despise Linux users. Lots of guys in the FOSS community have complained about how hard Toshiba has worked to prevent anyone from using Linux on their laptops. Aside from that I haven't had any physical issues with their systems at all.

I'm gonna vote "unlucky" given that the majority of experiences I've heard have been nothing but good.

No, logic only shows that you don't consider yourself an average consumer. It doesn't reflect the extent of your knowledge.

Congratulations. Can you tell me what else my "do you?" question could have referred to?

Why would I indicate these are something an particular group is ignorant to and then make it clear I was not part of that group if In fact I had the same ignorances?

Do I look for bigger numbers? Am I swayed by fancy terminology? Do I know what your vague sentence fragment is Is supposed to be referring to?

When you say "average consumer" it is actually the opposite of referring to a particular group. And as I said, your statement didn't explain the extent of your knowledge, as there are many possibilities between technological genius and "have no idea what RAM is".

Those are from your second sentence which was a direct result of the first. So there are 2 possibilities:
1. I'm asking about your level of knowledge.
2. I must have ignored your first sentence along with common sense, considered you to be an average consumer, and was asking whether you look for big numbers or are swayed by fancy terminology as if your disdain wouldn't have been clear.

A simple "I know what they mean, I work at the computer isle" would have cleared both, regardless of what you consider to be my level of intelligence.

And by the way, "do you?" has a subject and predicate, and therefore it qualifies as a full sentence. And as I said, what it means when somebody asks you that should have been made clear to you in primary school.

That isn't true, specs can tell you a lot about how a device will perform, how it can or cannot handle certain tasks, what browsing experience to expect, how smoothly everything will run, etc.

When you buy a car, do you never check engine size, gearbox, number of doors, size of the trunk, and number of seats?

Err... well, I check the trunk. Ok, I admit that when it comes to cars I am not very knowledgeable. I just tend to focus on average fuel economy and price.

Anyway, he was talking about usefulness. Even a low end tablet can be useful to someone depending on their particular needs.

Apparently, Toshiba is going to call this tablet "Thrive". People are already "reviewing" it on Amazon. Toshiba is calling the display "wideview", though the there is no viewing angle spec. Also unknown is which version of Android it will ship with.
