Apple stopped trying to sell tablets on the hardware specs a while ago. So far it looks like a good idea.

The Android tablet makers may want to emphasize something else as well, because consumers are not interested in that.

that's cracks me . They say the don't emphasize specs, or need to, yeah Okie Dokie, they come out with that crap when their specs are less than the competition . but they don't seem to be to shy about saying "Retina Display" or A4 or A5 processor's or "Thunderbolt" Intel etc on their other hardware.

Consumer's don't care about specs? Really? I know of NO ONE who would buy a computer without at least knowing what the specs are. or a camera, an HDTV etc.

Rubbish... most people I know who have iPads or Android tablets were more interested in whether it would do the things they wanted than in what processor it contained or what OS it ran on so keep the anti-Apple rants off site please... and don't bother with your insulting "fanbois" remarks, I use an Android tablet.

And in one way you're not far off with the "magical" crap... apart from the serious computer users, most people, I know want to use a computer to do useful things not computer geekery... they care less about the hardware than about being able to do what they want. If they are buying new then they tend to ask someone more knowledgeable (about computers) to help/advise them.

Rockdaman was saying Apple stopped using specs to sell iPads a long time ago. And I pointed out that Apple advertises and trumps up specs when they feel they having something to crow about such as "Retina Display", A5 processor, dual core etc. But when their specs are lower than their competition it becomes the usual "People don't care about specs" That's what's Rubbish.

And contrary to what you might think, majority of people DO want to know how much RAM, what processor they are using, what's the connectivity, can I watch a Blu ray ? etc. etc. Even if they don't know what all the terms mean, they do look to the Electronic Salesperson to steer them in the right direction in buying what is the best they can afford. I know grandpa's going into buying TV's and asking about 720P vs 1080P contrast ratio. etc. People DO WANT TO KNOW the specs.

This may come as a bit of a shock to you but not everyone walks in to a store like a mindless drone just looking for an apple lable and not caring what they are getting. Can't speak for the the Apple store patrons though

I said nothing about people wandering around looking for an Apple, I said they didn't care about the specs of the equipment as long as it performed for them and, if they were unsure, then they asked friends, family whatever, for assistance...

Actually, not only can't you you speak for Apple store patrons, you can't speak for anyone else at all as you have no mandate from them to represent their views... would be interested in what triggered your Apple phobia though, did one fall on you as a child and as gravity had already been figured out, it just scared you...

And if you read my original post... I use an Android tablet because it suits my needs far better than an iPad, it doesn't look as pretty but IT DOES WHAT I WANT... this is all most people care about!

Back to the topic at hind (man the buttocks):

I'd be cautious about choosing a tablet without trying it out in the store, and I personally have not been enamored of the Toshiba netbooks to which Engadget and Gizmodo gave orgasmically high marks. Convenient and inexpensive devices often have similar specs, so I find it best to get the one I love aesthetically.

Things I do like about Toshiba: the overall design and balance of features and price. Things I haven't liked at all: Their keyboards and screens. I reserve judgment on any Toshiba tablet until I've touched and seen the screen personally.

As a user I want certain things. If I don't get them, I won't buy. Verry Simple.

1. endless data expandability.
2. HDMI out.
3. Something that lasts longer than the battery.

nothing on the market offers these yet. So I'm not buying anything...

In my experience the average consumer has no idea what a GHz actually is or what RAM does. They tend to just look for bigger numbers, though they are also often swayed by fancy terminology.
