Correct, ADE should unlock the PDF's if DRM is present. I wouldn't expect DRM on a free site but I have gotten free books with DRM on them from other sites.

I guess I'll have my problem taken care of in about six weeks. I called Literati and talked to Jasmin and she tried everything she could to help me but no go. She is sending me the dreaded box and label so I can send the unit back to them and she will send me another new unit. Hopefully i will get a good unit this time. My unit is the white one but she will be sending me a black one to replace this one. Wish me luck.... sierkahn

My (white) Literati no longer remembers my place when it is powered off. It does place a bookmark correctly when I put it to sleep. But when fully powered off and started up, it does not return to the correct page.

I already did a full factory restore - didn't help.

Other suggestions?

Hi

I just bought a Literati Reader. Charged it for 6 hours, turned it on, set it up, did the wifi thing, did the update, it told me to power off, and when I powered back on it just shows the screen with the Literati Name and Rainbow (with the words the sharper image at the bottom) and never fully turns on. I have tried turning it off and on, reseting several times, off and on again. I also tried plugging it into my computer but Windows 7 says it does not recognize the USB device so now I'm just lost and have no idea what to try next. Any ideas?

Nette,

Try the reset on the back of the reader. There is a little hole that will accept the end of a paperclip. With the power on, insert the paperclip and it will reset the reader. See if that fixes the problem.

It sounds like the update didn't take. You can try updating the firmware manually. You need to download the file, put it on the SD card, and reboot while holding down the Q key on the keyboard. Here is the link to the firmware file.

I have several children's books I downloaded from Project Gutenberg, they are in ADE and when I plug my Literati into the computer and try to drag the books there, I get this message "No permission to copy document here." Does anybody know what this means?

I'm about to totally give up on this thing.

They don't have to be in ADE do they? (They shouldn't.) Try putting them into Calibre instead of ADE and see if they'll work better that way.

Was it in the book when you powered it down? I always press home first and then power down. If it was in the book did you see the little bookmark slide down on the page before is turned off? When you power back up it won't automatically start the book again but if you press the back to book button it should go to where it left off.

Project Gutenberg books should work from Calibre as suggested or you can just drag them from a window to the device SD card or internal memory as needed. There is no reason to use ADE to do it. ADE does require that the literati be registered to ADE itself in order to do its thing but just dragging the files from a window requires no registration at all.

We've renamed our Literati. It is now the Miserati.

My roommate loves everything except the battery life. I, on the other hand, am the one who puts books on it for him. I've finally found that if I use one particular USB cable (out of three identical cables that work with other devices) and plug it into one particular USB port (the one on the left side), my computer will recognize it. At that point I can use Calibre with no problems.

But... it works!
