Thanks! Yes, I have been busy reading! What a step up from the 505, the things I can do! I went back to my 505 and touched the book I wanted, but it just didn't open up. Forgot all about those pesky keys on the right you have to use

Pros:
*touch screen is nice!
*LOVE the home key- how easy to get back there
cool that you can make collections right on your reader (but I wasn't sure how to move books into those collections from the reader...?)
*LOVE the dictionary and ability to highlight
*It just feels good in my hands, what a great size!
*I really did the black color

Cons:
*I am not a fan of the home screen... honestly, I'd love to just see my collections laid out in front of me instead of icons for things I don't use. Maybe there's a way to change that.
*I know I can get around this, but I do wish it fit my previous cover. But I do like that it's more compact, so maybe that's just the give and take.
*wish I could just magically import everything on my 505 to my 650

I've just been playing around with a few different things, but I'll need to actually look at the user guide to see everything available to me. I showed this sucker off to at least 5 people today, and I was supposed to be working

When you're at the book menu, use the Options button, select "Add to Collection". There you'll select which collection you want to add books to and then you check off which books you want to move.

If you ever used Calibre to manage your library for your 505, all you'd have to do is use Send to Device to load all your books onto the 650. And if you never used Calibre, you're missing out on a great program, I highly recommend it.

Edit: Btw, Calibre will also set collections on the reader when you upload them to the 650 making managing collections even that much easier.

k for that, thanks!

Honestly, I briefly tried Calibre way back when and the learning curve was just too high for me, so I stopped. I use it for conversion, and I hear raves about how great it is to organize, but it just doesn't look as intuitive to me as the reader library. I'm sure that sounds crazy to people. Perhaps I'll have to try it again at some point.

Hey, even my mother can use Calibre to manage her Sony!

And I must say, when I first started using Calibre, I also only used it for conversions. It's only recently that I started using it as library application. I like the fact that Calibre will create my collections for me, as I don't particularly like the way it's done on the Sony (too much clicking around).

Oh, and then I almost forget the most important question: What colour did you get!

Congratulations on your new toy! I am so envious now.
**I still have my 505, the battery still goes for 2 weeks, and nothing (knocking on wood) has ever gone wrong.**

I just haven't been able to justify getting a new reader (I want new carpet... but, but I realllly want a 650.)

Have fun reading!

I'm glad you love your new 650. I would definitely recommend that you browse the user guide to learn the new features. I think that once you start to use some of these extra that you might start to like the home screen better. Also check out the sticky threads at the top of the forum. Goaspy wrote a great software tool that allows you to set what 3 books you want on the home screen. The dictionary is probably my favorite extra feature compared to the 505 and the ability to make highlighted notes. Remember when in doubt to press the Options key. It is where most of the menu features are located and it changes depending on what you are doing when you press it. Have fun!

Actually, you sort of can.

Run Reader Library, plug in your 505 to the USB port, grab each collection and drag it to the Library section of Reader Library. Your eBooks and the collections will be copied from the 505 to Reader Library under Library. Then just drag them back to Reader once the 650 is plugged in and Reader Library is running. Simple really.

Nope, does not sound crazy! I installed Calibre about the same time as I got my reader. Did not like it at all. Made no sense to me.
Now I don't know whatever gave me ideas like that! Love it!
Apart from general "library functions" I absolutely love the way I can organize my device collections.
You really must give it another go!

I'm glad you like your 650

About moving your books from 505 to 650, the easiest way I can think of is starting Calibre, copying all the books from 505 to it's library, then plugging in 650 and sending them there.

It's a lot easier to copy the collections from the 505 to the 650 using Reader Library then it is using Calibre.

Oh, ok. I didn't know that, since I only use Reader Library to get free books from the Sony Store or borrow books from the library.

I use both and have to say the RL is easier to get. Now that I have used Calibre for a while I have my way around the program, but I don't use the multitude of possibilities it offers, just the basic stuff.

If it weren't for certain plug-ins, I wouldn't bother with Calibre either.
