Ha, I too tried to read a paper book and wondered why I never realized how uncomfortable they are. So I bought the Duragadget cover:

at Amazon. It is really awesome in that I also felt naked K3 to have a sharp feel to the edges. This cover really gives it a solid soft feel and is very nice when reading at the table with it's kick stand.

I almost bought that one because of the stand part but bought the BookGem instead.

I ordered that silicone skin recommended in this thread. We will see if that helps. I figure for $7 it was worth a try.

I find that I can position my hand just right, so that I can press the buttons with the thumb on my hand that is in the strap (does that make sense? LOL). I also like the the edges are partially protected too. It did smell a little strong when I first received it (I'm really sensitive to smell) but I found that the features far outweighed the bad smell, and it went away after awhile. I also like that it folds at the top, so that I can comfortably hold it with either hand. I'm also a little clumsy, and the strap feels more secure.

I like the hand-strap on the case so much, that any ereader I own will NEED a cover with a similar strap (or I will add one). I can't imagine reading nearly as comfortably without one.

Here's a link.
I had the Marware cover and think it's well made and a nice cover. The problem I had with it was the way the K3 fits into it... I found it interfered with me ability to hit the right arrow key (of the 5 way controller). So I sadly had to return it.

Instead, I bought the lighted Kindle cover and have found that less (as in attachment point) is more.

I fold the top cover over and hold the Kindle that way. My left thumb seems to naturally rest near the back button and my right thumb rests naturally near the forward button. I find this case very functional.

If I leave the case open like that and then pick up the K3, I do turn a page or two accidentally sometimes, but it's no big deal to hit the back button and return to where I was reading.

Yes, it makes sense, and I feel the same way! My favorite cases don't have a band, but are just this ordinary portfolio type. Here's a pic:

The clasp is magnetic and sturdy, so I can fold the front cover to the back and snap it into that position, providing a nice, soft space between for my right-hand fingers to rest in, or I just hook my index finger over the clasp.

When holding it with my left, I slide my fingers into the built-in pocket.

Like you, this is a must-have for any case I buy.

(I've been looking for one for my sony, but this one is the closest i can find, and the pocket wouldn't work.)

Same here, WT. I do it on both the Kindle and the Sony, but I still consider the occasional "oops" to be well worth the ease of it when I'm reading.

Thanks for the avatar. I was reading Isaac Asimov's first robot story when I had to think of a user name. If Robbie is good enough for Isaac, its good for me. The movie version of Robbie had slipped my mind until I saw your picture.

I found that part of the 4-way controller was covered too. It really bothered me at first, but was willing to overlook it because I really liked the strap at the back, I got used to it after a while, I thought that I might work up the courage to trim the case a bit around the controller. Also the on-switched is covered a little (but I found that it still worked ok)

Great idea! This opens up a whole new world for cases!

I have one of these too. The stand is amazingly useful, not just when I'm feeling lazy but it also allows me to read when I'm cooking or washing up!

I have always read while doing other things such as cooking or cleaning my teeth. But I don't like splashing the Kindle and I haven't found a really safe way to do such things with the Kindle. So now it's when I'm doing things like that that I read dtbooks. (I've still got a huge backlog of them, despite having forsworn buying any more.)

I can't imagine reading the K3 without a case (I've always had it in my leather case), so I might not be able to relate to your gripes. In my case, it's actually more comfortable than reading a book. I rarely hit a button when I don't mean to. I love that I can keep the thing in the same position and not have to adjust it a bit as I would with a book as I turn a page.

A Ziplock is your friend for those minor splashes.

I wonder how many "case people" have tried reading without a case. Before you call me a bad person, I have a padded case it goes back into immediately after reading.

I had beautiful oberon cases for 1 and 2 - for 1, I found it easier to hold onto the case than the device (kept changing pages). For 2, it was too big and too slippery. But 3 is just right without a cover.

Of course, just my opinion. Maybe i will create a poll!

I don't mind holding it, but if I read more than a book a day (which I do a lot, actually), I get trigger finger from pressing the page button so much.
