Your answer actually has nothing to do with the question - which was about Data that Sony holds not the devices.

Well, I'm concerned about the breach -- especially since I own a PS3 and have had a PSN account.

I've been unable to change my password for weeks because the network's been down. On a side note: Linear, non-competitive games are one of the futures of the hypertext novel. From Julio Cortazar's Hopscotch to Michael Joyce's work in Storyspace to the various narrative experiments on the DS (Flower, Sun and Rain; Hotel Dusk) and the PS2/3 (Indigo Prophecy; Heavy Rain), the progression of active narrative is clear: games are proving to be one of the last stages in unifying literature, cinema, stochastic composition and the idea of an active art. It isn't that the current arts will become less important, but rather that another important art is about to be added. I'm looking to academic support from Canada, among other places, for lasting work in that area: The active visual novel in the hands of independent artists and not large corporations. |

Here's an interesting read about the timeline of the hacks. It seems that the SOE network was hacked before the PlayStation Network...

Sony never had my credit card info. Even if I had given it to them, it would have been as a "ShopSafe" one-time-use number. It generates a new CC number (including the card security code), with the expiration month and maximum spending limit you desire. After one vendor makes a charge to it, no other vendor can charge against the same number. And anytime you want, you can go into your online account and void a number. My credit card provider offers this service at no charge, because it reduces their exposure to fraud. I use these CC numbers any time I purchase anything online. An explanation of how it works is here.

Sony has reported even more breaches. I am definitely concerned. I'm quite sure I didn't ask to store my CC info with them, but they might have anyway...

There is no breach for the Reader Store. So talking about the PS3 is off-topic given that this is a 650 thread.

Yeah, now their Greek music store had been breached. They just can't catch a break. And I bought a newspaper yesterday w/out having to enter any billing info. I just hope it's somehow encrypted on their end.

Clearly, the OP was motivated to post by the PSN security breach and asked if that breach had made Reader store users worry about others. Readers who own both PS3s and Readers have been encouraged to comment. Simply posting a thread under a specific category doesn't stamp it with an official seal that forbids anyone talking about things other than said category. |
