Could be a DNS server that went wonky. There's nothing like a nameserver sending back an authoritative "Oh God no!" to really confuse matters.

I'm not likely to be a whole lot of help here because I'm having local issues -- I kept getting randomly tossed off an online game last night because, near as I can tell, the cable company that provides my net service needs to feed its hamsters more. Or maybe less ... maybe they're getting too fat to run in their wheels. But at any rate, I've been having random loss-of-connectivity glitches since yesterday, so I'm not sure if any given problem I see is really there, or if it's the local issue again, without checking downforeveryone.

Chalk it up to DNS changes (or routing table changes) somewhere along the line that haven't fully propagated yet. A poorly configured/flaky CDN is also a likely candidate--given the various results. There's nothing you can do on your end. It'll be all better in a day or two, I promise.

Funny, the link works for me, but that website said it looks down from there...so I guess it can be and "Up foreverybody or just me" check too.

Can that site give any details about where it is and the DNS/route it is using to check?

Ah... in that case, I suggest bringing it to the attention of your ISP... including the results from downforeveryoneorjustme.com.

I can't ping the ip address, and a traceroute bombs out after a few hops, but the web page comes up for me every single time. I'm using Chrome from America's heartland.

Agreed - bring it up with your ISP as a starting point. The sight comes up fine from here on the Wet Coast, but there's enough evidence of issues that it's likely a DNS or router issue somewhere.

Most probably a problem with DNS server.
When you type www.example.com, the words must be converted to IP address. That is done by DNS servers. Your internet provider provides you with DNS server that is usually set automatically. You might try to set different DNS server in your operating system and see what happens.

The Domain Name Server system is quite complicated and sometimes provider makes change in IP address and there might be problem until the change propagates to all servers, including one that provides name/IP resolution. When server finds out IP address that belongs to a domain name it usually caches the value, so when somebody else looks for an address it doesn't have to query an upstream server again.

It can also by problem with their internet provider. Some routing table might be misconfigured somewhere.

Sounds like the site has more than one server and one of them is offline. It is always hard for site owners to determine this because they might be pointed to the good server.

They should have their IT check to see if this is the case.
