Yeah, I love they basically said "Yeah. Small-presses still not welcome" while managing to sound inclusive. "All publishers" likely just refers to the existing publishers that those companies already "recognize". That's skilled press-release doublespeak yo.

The development is interesting, but I don't see what it has to offer that other sites like Goodreads aren't already doing better. Once Goodreads implements its "recommend" software (similar to Netflix's), it will be a one-stop website.

Isn't this what Goodreads does as well as many other sites such as amazon? If I am at amazon and I click on a partciular book, it will tell me other books that are similar. Seems to me to be rather redundant, then again when did anyone ever claim that book publishers were not redundant redundant.

Does this "except for vanity publishers" include all the best selling indie writers, like Konrath, Crouch, Kitt, etc who are selling more "books" than a lot of the "proper publisher" writers?

It's more of a road for me since I can't download books before buying at goodreads. Interestingly some books have a click to read button on goodreads but when I click the button I'm only able to read a few pages of the book through goodreads before I'm asked to buy. I think goodreads was using a smashwords API or something.

This is true...but you can only get recommendations from a friend if they have already read a particular book. This would can recommend books that none of your friends have yet read.

But it depends a lot on the quality of the algorithm. Pandora is quite good for music, but many other, similar programs are not.

I think this Bookish site looks cool, personally. I don't care if it only has books from those three publishers. It's not like they're stopping me from looking elsewhere, and they aren't FORCING me to read their books. Just because something's published by a major publisher doesn't make it a bad read. I've noticed there seems to be a trend to prejudice against big publisher books versus indie books. A good book is a good book, no matter where it was published.
