Cool.

My experience has been that the MS installer (are you using windows?) doesn't copy some files if the version number hasn't changed. It could be that the change some releases back to use one giant zip file instead of individual program files takes care of this problem. I would still be concerned about possible changes to the support & executable files, but in this case I don't think there are any.

Thxs....I suspected that, but did not uninstall, hence the "slipstreamed" bug fixes didn't take effect.

Yeah, I'm on Windows XP SP3. IIRC, the installer spends such a long time "checking space requirements" because it has to compare some checksum of the files to be copied against the versions already present, which are, unusually, not stored inside the files for Calibre due to the fact that it's written in Python. So my guess would be that it recognizes which files to copy because it looks at each file anyway. I don't know how the use of ZIP files changes this assumption, though.

I chose the safer, un-install route as there is little left of my back-side, I have been bitten so many times.

I see Drag and Drop into the formats area now works.

Initial release of 8 on both XP and Ubuntu with 1 screen Metadata edit. Dragging a format to the Formats area got the Slashed Circle pointer. I had to use the Add Formats button.

Dragging to the Main Library (new book) still worked

Strange. There weren't any changes to that code. In addition, all three of the edit metadata screens use the same formats widget, so if it worked in one place, it should have worked in them all. Lastly, it worked for me.

That is really strange as it happened on 2 different OS.
I was trying to add a new format to an empty book and got the slash circle., So I hit the KVM to Ubuntu and tried to add a format to an existing book. Same.

After I did the refresh of 8 (slipstreamed), it worked
