Also, if you look at the coverage maps (also linked earlier in thread), you will see that the US version works just fine in European countries. |

Although-- I suspect that Amazon is now selling the International version in Canada instead of the US version. As when you check-out it forces you to buy the International version, even if you have the US one selected for purchase. I know it wasn't always like this (I've bought 2, and they're both the US version), but I think that Amazon has recently changed this. |

Canadian Registered Kindle travelling in US
If I have a Kindle registered to my Canadian address and I am travelling in the US would I access the Cdn or US bookstore if I want to buy a book from the Kindle?

The store you use is based on where your Kindle account is registered to. So you would still be using the Canadian store even when traveling to the states.

What if I changed the registration of my account before I went ot the US? Btw is there any advantage to US store over Cdn one?

The US store has many more available books then the Canadian store. There are ways to use the US store. If you check in the Kindle Forum you should find a topic or two that tells you how to register to gain access to the US store.
I believe it requires having a valid US address and using a VPN blocker to mask your IP address. |

What a confusing thread LOL
![]() Here's what I did when I wanted to get a Kindle for my wife for Christmas...
So, all was good...I wanted to charge it up and make sure everything was fine before wrapping it up, so I plugged it in, got it connected to my home WiFi router and set it up with my amazon.ca login, etc. Everything worked perfectly so far. But it looked empty ![]() So I thought, well, let's see how much problem we have in Canada purchasing a book...I search (very easily I might add) for "Nora Roberts" (her favourite author) and I effortlessly purchased The Bride's Quartet for her (a recent four-book set by Nora that was on my wife's Christmas list)! All in all, I would say that the Kindle was definitely the way to go...no hassles with the above book purchases, or with registering the device at all! I'm assuming the confusion lies in the devices that have the 3G capabilities...? Kev |

One other major difference: US vs Can Prices ..
With the current exchange rates with Canada over par with US, you would expect pricing on the websites to be comparable .. NOT.
I was comparing my neighbors US version to my CDN one. Hmm. PC Magazine subscription 2.99 CDN vs 1.49 US, etc, etc. US version has games and active content available (some free) to download, CDN has none. Both devices are version 3.1 Why? |

I'm sorry, I did not explain properly ..
On my Canadian Kindle, the prices in the Kindle Store are only in Canadian Dollars, and all the online magazine pricing is about double the US despite the fact that the Canadian Dollar is currently worth more than the US Dollar. On my friends US Kindle, the prices in the Kindle Store are in US Dollars, with many more selections available, at half the prices. Now tell me, why .. |

I think it's a matter of geographical restriction at work. Just as some books are available in Canada or the U.K. but not in the U.S. the game apps in question seem to have the same restriction. Exactly why that is the case is a good question.

So, set up a US account and if you run into restrictions, move the kindle to that address. (It's not hard and you don't have to have a physical presence in the US.)
