No Fictionwise newsletters since last August

Nope. I used up my Micropay awhile back and haven't bought anything since. Newsletters were already pretty sporadic before then, though. There were several discounts listed here by other MR users that I had not received, even though I was still getting a notice very occasionally.

I still get the newsletters, but I can't find a book I want. All the authors I used to buy have gone from the site and to be honest I can't find an author on the site that I've ever heard of. I'm not particularly bothered but I used to buy quite a few and I've still got £5 in my micropay account dammit!
Anyone suggest a (mystery/crime) author on the site that I might know?

they went down hill big time when Barns & Noble bought them in '09 by the begining of '10 publishing right issue cleared out more than half of the major authors and when the pubishing issues got fixe very little was returned.

beofe the B&N aquisition fictionwise was a major ebook retailer and worked perfect with stanza, now its fallen so far that stanza nolonger recognizes it as a major ebook retailer in thier app.

i really loved thier points program i know that at the rate my wife and i were purchasing books we would get 2-3 free books a month and we really liked that. imho nobody has as good of a system since.. but since their library is just a shadow of thier former self we nolonger purchase there wich is a shame.

The last six or seven issues are usually available, although subscriptions are not. If you have club membership, and use the 35% coupon, you could probably get three for your £5.

Maybe try some of e-reads' catalogue? They reprint midlist previously published authors' works, and the guy who runs it is some sort of agent with connections in the industry, so most of what I've picked up from them (sf/fantasy) has been generally of fairly good quality from lesser-known but well-regarded writers, some of whom have won awards.

They're a bit pricey on Fictionwise (and elsewhere), but they sell in MultiFormat and the cost becomes quite reasonable once you add in one of FW's more generous discount coupons.

Here are their Mystery and Crime sections, respectively, if you're interested.

I think that is still the case - that only people who have Micropay are getting the newsletters and coupons.

So far, at least your idea about the coupon codes works. I tried it at just after midnight on Friday to get the latest one. Thanks for that idea!

I had stopped getting email from them last fall, and that situation lasted for a few months. However, after they gave me a micropay credit for a book that had typos in it, I started receiving the coupon codes every week. It stopped again after I spent the last of the credit.

Ah good to know. That's what I thought. Whenever I get micropay I spend it right away because I just don't trust the whole situation.

As far as I know, they're still the only multi-publisher, multi-genre, DRM-free ebook store. (Yeah, they have DRM'd ebooks. I ignore those.) A lot of the small ebook publishers feed into Fictionwise; it keeps me from needing accounts at a dozen publishers' bookstores, and lets me get the full range of formats--a lot of publishers only offer ePub and PDF on their own sites.

They cancelled their club membership and stopped the newsletters with no explanation whatsoever regardless of age.

I asked them a couple of weeks ago as to why I had stopped receiving the newsletters, no response .....


- until today, when the newsletter popped into my mailbox with a 60% off voucher for this week only spring60off (Excludes Samhain Publishing eBooks)...
