The people who don't know the difference are not as likely to get a job then the one who do. Than I could be wrong...

There is a reason I hired a proof reader when I was working on my dissertation. My grammar is poor and we won't talk about my spelling. I blame the 8 different learning disabilities which influence how I hear sounds (audio discrimination), see words and numbers (dyslexia and disnomia), and process visual information (dysgraphia). Toss in ADHD and I struggled in most of the more rigiourous elements of school (Math, Science, Grammar) but excelled in the more creative elements (Creative Writing and Reading). The social sciences were pretty easy for me but that is because I loved reading and my parents loved history so it was something we were taught from day 1.

I don't worry about these things on bulletin boards because, well, it is a bulletin board and I don't feel the need to stress over the difference between then and than. My dissertation and anything I published went through a much more structured review process and my thens and thans were correct.

No, Europe and Asia are on the same tectonic plate - the appropriately-named "Eurasian Plate". Their conventional separation into two continents is historic, going back to to Ancient Greek times at least. Herodotus, in his "Histories" (published in the mid 5th century BC) describes the three continents of Europe, Asia, and Africa which were known to him.

Interesting. Guess I need to go back and review my geology notes.

And this is why I love boards like this, I learn stuff.

What about North America and South America? Two separate continents, yet joined together as one land mass.

And you can still drive North-East-West-South of Europe (as a part of the world) without having to "jump" between any continent.
Starting in Norway at Nordkapp and ending in Tarifa in Spain
(Norway(Nordkapp)-Finland-Russia-Ukraine(Chertkovo)-Slovenia-Austria-Switzerland-France-Spain-Portugal(Cabo da Roca)-Spain(Tarifa).
(Which I plan on doing "some time" on motorcycle. )

So, Europe is landfast with Asia, hence Eurasia.
When I was a kid in skoul want we were taught was Eurasia was basically the area that went both ways it wasn't pure Europe and it wasn't pure Asia, I guess you could call it the "t-ain't" of Europe and Asia continents. Cuz, it "t-ain't Asia and t-ain't Europe".

But since those formative and foundation years I actively sought to forget all the geography I ever learned. I feel much better for having done so as had I not, there is no way I could fit all those equations into my brain, it's simply too small, something had to go. First went grammar, then went geography and after that Spanish.

Plus it is simply not fair to keep changing country names and boundaries. I swear sometimes that I miss the good ol' USSR as when they went teats-up geography got a lot harder!! Maybe their final revenge on the rest of the planet. hahaha.

And I stopped learning African countries in the mid-70s because every time I bought a globe or world atlas the danged thing needed replacing or a lot or sticky labels. And it kept getting worse every year. Very inconsiderate of people to keep changing things so often. I say a country with more than one coup every millennium should be find by the UN if they change the name or the borders!!

Actually we did try to make Canada part of the U.S. at one time, but they declined our attempt to make them part of the country. Seems they didn't like being invaded.

One semester I had two hundred plus students so I assigned three students to each country. The three students who were assigned to Great Britain told me that Germany bordered Great Britain. It is really, really sad what students don't know.

And most thought that Africa was one country and did not get the difference between a continent and a country.

I drank heavily after grading.
