Didn't someone do this a few years back? I remember something about glare issues on something like that, akin to the problems with earlier Sony touch eink screens.

I believe that was Sony's product. One of two tablets they were touting coming out later this year.

The Sony 700 had lights around the edge for reading in the dark.

The general consensus was that it stank and the model only lasted a year.

You might be able to find one on eBay or Craigslist if you really want one, but since it doesn't seem to have worked very well, I wouldn't bother.

Is it so hard to attach a reading light?

That's what I was thinking of.

Personally, I really like the light on the Sony lighted covers. It has a little flexible thing, so you can adjust it however. Picked up one for my girlfriend's 300 for $5 at Border's one day. Wish I had one for my 505. Last time I saw it in a store (couple months ago), they wanted $65.

The thing about built-in lights for E-ink readers is that it plays merry hell with battery life and screws up the advertised lifetimes (even though it's a little unfair to the company ). Consumers are just going to see the final results - Reader A(no light) gets 4 days to a charge, Reader B(with light) gets 1 day (because the consumer used the light a lot).

Companies don't like to lose the ad-wars. *shrug*

Simple: phosphorescent e-ink. Turn off the lights, it glows in the dark.

Sheer genius . Why has no one done this yet? Well, aside from the sickly green glow one associates with phosphorescence . Still, I would think that's not insurmountable in this day and age. I'm gonna have to talk to some people .

The lighted covers for the 505 had a light wedge. I got mine for $12.50 off the Staples clearance table when Sony discontinued the 505.

I still love my 505, but it is hard to find accessories for it now - glad I snatched that cover when I found it.

Yeah, the Sonys have a nice lighted cover. I plan to upgrade to a Sony from my Nook eventually - maybe I can get a nice lighted cover, then. I wasn't thrilled with the couple of lighted Nook covers.
