Thanks for the quick reply. "Gone" means the font for UI and book texts are automatically changed to Regular instead of Condensed after restart, even if I did not change anything in the etc folder. And it will be just impossible to use condensed font afterward. The text (even those "keep", "pdf") now seems to be Regular instead of Condensed.
What I would like to have is to change CJK fonts to ones of my choice, but keep everything else exactly like the original Kindle (using condensed font). But it seems there is a problem... |

@dz902: The default config shouldn't touch the condensed setting (ie. it'll always use Caecilia Condensed), while the nocondensed trigger file will make the condensed setting use the classic Caecilia.
It seems to work as designed on my end, so I'm not sure I really get the issue you're referring to... ![]() One thing I'm pretty sure about is that the 'pdf', 'new', 'keep' & co stuff will always use the regular font, but I never checked that fact ![]() Although, if you only want to tweak the CJK font, you may be better off using a slightly tweaked font.properties file (with only the CJK stuff modified). That's what I thought too, but after restart the all font went regular... ![]() It seems to work as designed on my end, so I'm not sure I really get the issue you're referring to... . What do you mean by 'after restart'? I'm assuming you never tweaked the reader.pref (or whatever) config file in the system folder? "After restart" means when I go to Settings -> Restart to do a full restart...It seems the autoreboot triggers a different kind of "restart". Is that so? ![]() One thing I'm pretty sure about is that the 'pdf', 'new', 'keep' & co stuff will always use the regular font, but I never checked that fact . They are really condensed (or at least different from regular)...I have seen those characters having different spacing. Although, if you only want to tweak the CJK font, you may be better off using a slightly tweaked font.properties file (with only the CJK stuff modified). That is what I did. I have just tried using a reboot file instead of Menu -> Setting -> Restart. Now it seems fine... ![]() I'm not sure what causes the problem but considering the fact that other than applying updates I will never need to full restart my Kindle, I will live with it. Thanks for so much help! |

Hi everyone
I was wondering if there is any possibility to use a font without antialiasing/ to turn font smoothing off? I know there must be a way to turn font smoothing off, because sometimes when a new page loads it first appears without font smoothing and a second later it is smoothed again. Would be so great if someone knows a way to do that as font smooting is much harder on my eyes and I tend to get headaches from it. |

@johannes999: I could probably whip up a patched FT override that forces hinting off, but it will look like *utter* crap.

I got the "special offers" Kindle as a gift. Since it was free, I didn't put up a fuss even though I ordinarily would never have bought this version.
However, I tried the jailbreak and screensaver hack, and it doesn't seem to work. The linkss folder is there, I have my own image in it, have rebooted, nothing works. Has anyone had any success in getting this screensaver hack working with a "special offers" Kindle? I used the instructions for "Kindle 3 Wi-Fi"... |

I imagine things changed a bit regarding the framework's handling of screensavers to achieve the live cycling ads screensavers on the 'special offers' Kindle, but since FW 3.2 is currently only available on these devices, and I won't be getting one, ever, I can't say much more... :}.
Besides, circumventing this on these specific devices isn't something I'm particularly inclined to do, for obvious reasons... Last edited by NiLuJe; 04-30-2011 at 04:10 AM. |

hello, i found that some symbols like ①②③ could not be displayed, but it's contained in the CJK fonts. i added the character to sans/serif fonts, but it's still a mass.
The symbols are unicode 2460-2473, and could be found at http://www.iam.uni-bonn.de/~alt/html/unicode_170.html thanks for your fonthack work again. ![]() |

I apologize in advance if this has been answered in posts or in the instructions. I searched for answers first and could not find any.
I have 3.02 firmware with jailbreak and screen saver on my Kindle 3. I would like to update to firmware 3.1. Do I have to un-jailbreak my Kindle, update with 3.1 firmware, and then re-jailbreak? Do I have to uninstall my screen saver hack and reinstall? Thanks! |
