I was thinking -- if you could take a cellphone picture of the food that you ARE able to get that you like, maybe when you get to a place that you have trouble communicating what you want, you could just show some pictures?

This is happening in the US too. People who photograph the 'wrong' buildings are getting taken away and interrogated by federal agents. Happened to a fellow from Ohio visiting NYC with his family. He was held for two weeks... He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and took the wrong picture!

I really enjoy reading your travel journals. It's almost like being there! Your description of the spice markets really brought back memories of bulging burlap bags, overflowing barrels, and boxes filled with strange but wonderful smelling things!

Thinking about it inspires me to have some herbals... in a glass of Bombay Sapphire!

We had an incident like that down here recently:http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/21003309015872/ but it seems prudent to stop and question someone photographing an airport parking garage.
I was stopped in Ireland back in the Seventies for taking pictures from a bus. I didn't even know there was a prison in the area.

Thank you, I enjoyed the post and look forward to more. I travel with a netbook which is loaded with MS Office. Clumsier but cheaper than an ipad.
The worst is when I use my smartphone to correspond, but it's really convenient.

When I was traveling through the USSR I had several friends have rolls of film confiscated when they were taking pictures where they were not suppose to.

What a great idea. You could choose one of the more exquisite ones as it would be smaller.

When younger I had a small collection of woven tapestries, became bored of them, and gave them away. That is one of those things I did when younger that I now remember as "Stupid Things You Do When Younger." One was by a friend that years later (before she died) sold them for thousands of dollars.

Another Monday morning... Yippee! I made it!
English Breakfast Tea compliments of Ahmad, and a bowl of miso soup, rice, and tsukemono to start the day.

No chores to do today... how shall I entertain myself? Ahh! I know! I will search for African Violets! Yesterday I found one pot of of purple violets at a neighborhood nursery. Today I'll make the rounds and see if I can find some other varieties! Good plan...

But first, another mug of tea!
