you'd probably end up with more ties using the blind vote method.

I don't think any of this voting stuff matters. We can still read whichever book(s) we want to from the list, and can start a discussion thread on it too, if we feel strongly enough about it. I think it was fun this time

Nice idea but I think too complicated.

It seems the general consensus is that blind voting is a good idea, at least for a month trial. The only problem is that we'd either need Alex (?) to make blind polling possible or have Bob manually count votes private messaged to him which is more work for him.

It's not a matter of serious vs fun. Some of us just like having a "true/honest" vote vs a "popularity" vote. Pioletbob will still have the tie-breaking vote, anyway.

I disagree slightly. I agree with everything you say, but more people will read the winner, so if you're looking for discussion, you're going to get more with whichever book wins each month.

I voted without looking at the interim results and I would definitely prefer a blind poll.

I think the participation would be less.

And why not just have PilotBob or Opera pick a book for us?

I would hope people vote for what they want to read in any case, but there is no need for an open voting thread if the vote is hidden. Just put up a poll and don't allow comments once the nominations are in.

There's an idea... Once a year (January or December) we take all the losing books and randomly pick the winner.

On topic with the winner - can anyone recommend the best AK translation? I want to read the best and if someone already knows it'll save me the time of researching.
