Still reading 1984, but just finished Killing with the Edge of the Moon by Attanasio. Just started The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.

I hardly ever stop reading a book but tonight I put The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco aside. It's beautifully written but way too detailed for my taste (at the moment). I feel with all the descriptions and detailed and long conversations the story gets lost. I might come back to it later but for now I'm not in the mood.

Now on with the last book of the Percy Jackson series, The Last Olympian.

I loved it myself, but I can certainly see how Eco could manage to get in his own way with some readers. Try again some day or forget about it.

Just finished John Levit's Play Dead, the last (for now) of his Dog Days books. I'm anxiously awaiting Jim Butcher's Ghost Story (even though the ebook is priced HIGHER than the hardback) and casting about for what to read next.

Spoiler:
Play Dead ends on an ambiguous downer note that I didn't really care for, especially as it's possibly the very end of the series.

Oh! I didn't know pricing was out for Ghost Story.

I guess the pricing thing is because Amazon (if that is where you are looking) can give discounts on Hardback books but not eBooks.

I'm lucky that I hooked one of my co-workers on the series... hard. He'll be out on the first day and buy it, then stay up all night reading it. I'll just get his when he is done.

Did you try Butcher's other series with the Furies?

I've looked at it a couple times, but never pulled the trigger on it. I'm afraid I'll just sit there wondering when Harry Dresden is going to pop up.

Me too!!! Ghost Story will be the last book in this series I think. Doesn't the title say it all?

I read the Furies Series, and I thought they were very very good. Even better than the Dresden Files. I might reread them some time this year.

I gave up on this until after I'd seen the movie. Once I knew what it was about I could read the book I've never gone back for another Umberto Eco book though.

Just done with Mark Billingham - From the Dead - another good read, Harlen Corben - Caught was also very good. Now trying out David Grace - Death in Beverly Hills and apart from typos in respect of the victim's name (Marian, Marion) a pretty good page turner/refresher.

Just finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the night time. A quick fun read with an interesting glimpse into the autistic mind. What I found troubling is that I have quite a few similar mannerism. Nothing as severe, but still interesting.

Ghost Story isn't the last book in the series. He's already finished the next one (Cold Days) and started working on the one after that per his Blog.

The original idea was a 20 book series that ended in an epic 3 book trilogy to finish it off. He's running over what he thought there would be and he's up to... 23 or 24 now I think.

I really liked the series too though I can't say I liked it better then Dresden. I hope he goes back and finishes the story off since he left it open at the end.

I read that this year as well. Great book. I loved the emotional "distance" of the narrative.

And I have to admit, I really fell for the narrator. I just wanted to give him a big hug - which of course would have resulted in screaming.

I enjoyed this book also. It really helped me understand the difficulties an autistic individual experiences. What they think is so different than what they express.

If you tend to relate to your protagonists, please don't read Darkly Dreaming, please.
