The Kobo is limited in what it can do. A Kindle,Nook, or Sony can do a great deal more and the Kindle and Nook are in the same price range as the Kobo.

I would suggest a Kindle or Sony. Both are international devices although I am not sure if the Sony is sold in India and I am too lazy to check. There are easy work arounds to buy books from US based stores so the Nook, Kindle, and Sony would all work fine in India. The Nook would be more problematic to actually buy and then if you had problems with it.

I love my Kindle, it does everything I need it to do and then some. I know that there are plenty of Sony and Nook folks that feel the same about their devices. Heck, the Kobo owners are pretty loyal. (winks)

It really comes down to what you are looking for in a devices. You are going to have to convert files since you have files that are EPub and Mobi so that is not going to help you decide. Both the Kindle and Sony have good battery life, I believe the Kindle lasts longer but the Sony seems to go about 2 weeks without needing a charge.

ProfCash is right that you're not going to find a reader that is capable of handling both .mobi and ePub. I'm assuming that these files are DRM free, so that you can convert them? If that's the case Calibre does a nice job converting from one format to another, organizing books, and transferring them to the reader.

After screen quality, turning the page is the biggest consideration for me, considering that it is something that you will do hundreds of times in a book. I have arthritic wrists, so the big buttons of the Kindle and the Nook don't work for me. Also, I like a smaller reader; the big keyboard on the Kindle and the big LCD space on the Nook both add unnecessary size.

It's important to realize that while we all have our own opinions, that doesn't make any of us right or wrong. I like touchscreens and don't care about 3G. There are others who feel equally strongly against touchscreens and for 3G. The key is for you to look at all of our advice and decide what's most important for you.

This is a free forum that you don't own; I'm really tired of you making all this personal and keep saying that I have something against B&N. I don't have to justify my posts to you, but I spend lot of money each weekend visiting a B&N store close to home and even buying ebooks for my Android tablet. So stop making comments without any base whatsoever.

All people here are entitle to give their opinion. If you don't like mine, move on and ignore it, simple. Also, stop harassing me and replying each and in all comments I made. Kind of a big chance that every time I post something, you're also there.

There are not biased statements on my post: the Nook 1st generation has poor battery when compared to other eink readers like Sony or Kindle; does not support PDF natively and officially, has not being marketed for non USA customers. I challenge you to point what of those are not true.

I'm really surprise that moderators keep allowing you this behavior. I don't do personal attacks here so I demand same respect for each people here as well.

actually I'm surprised the moderators keep allowing you to purposely distort and in some cases out right lie. This isn't the first time you've been called out for your post. nor am I the only one to call you out on it as well. When multiple people have written similiar things about your posts as I did, well that should tell you something.

but to your claims regarding this post. You continue to say it doesn't support PDF's here are the specs

Supported File Types***
Load these popular formats for eBooks, graphics and audio from your computer or microSD card.
EPUB (including Non or Adobe DRM)
PDB
PDF
Graphics: JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP
Audio: MP3

I bolded the PDF, so maybe this will finally be clear to you , not that the truth matters much to you

and to your other distortion. You try present to the OP that unless you are an American Citizen, you'll have trouble buying books. Which that is only the case for buying books directly from Barnes and Noble. What you purposely leave out is the fact that since the nook supports ePUb , the OP would have no trouble at all buying books from ebookstores from around that world that support ePUb, which is the majority of them.

Now you don't like the nook, that's fine, I can care less. I LOVE Amazon but I don't care much at all for the kindle and in fact think it's the most overated ereader. But I don't make false claims about the Kindle in order to sway someone to buy what I think they should buy. I post the reason why I wouldn't choose a Kindle. You on the other feel the need to distort and make things up. If the Kindle is such a superior device then you trumping it's merits should be able to stand by itself with out the distortions.

Yes you are right this is a free and open forum, and you can post whatever you like, but don't think you can post false items on a daily basis and not expect to be called out on it. You don't want to respond to your post's then don't post lies just that simple.

You are the only liar here. Your statement is totally out of context and invented. Never said that. I said the Nook is not an international device. I challenge you to refute that, go ahead. You can bypass or trick the system getting a USA credit card and address, but Nook is not being sold to other countries like Kindle or Sony.

BS and your opinion! Thousands of users in USA think different. Hundreds of users on this website think different. You are just a Nook's fanboy.

The more that you write, the more stupid that you look. Because you are just debating over your own interpretation of things. You do the same thing to any Kindle user here, it is just because you hate Kindle, you have nothing constructive to provide to new users or people looking for Kindles. You just hate the device and when someone makes a critic about the Nook, you just jump to call it liar. Of course, you have nothing else to say, so then you attack the person.

Yeah, I will keep expressing myself without allowing anyone calling me a liar, you bet! You are nothing to stop people from providing opinions or critics to other devices.

Are you purposley being obtuse?

If you have a nook or any ereader that supports ePub, you can buy any book from any ebookstore that sells ebooks in ePub format. World wide. Which is most. You don't know need to have an American Credit card, you don't need to be an American Citizen. So if the OP lives in India and wants to buy all his/her books for an Indian ebooks store that sells ePub books, they are just fine. No American citizenship needed. What exactly are you having difficullty understanding here? Actually you don't you just like to distort.

I don't care if hundreds of people think different of me, I have tons of reason I don't like the Kindle and think it's overated. But that's me. I , unlike you, don't claim my opinions as facts. Please.... nook fanboy, you've never met a "What should I buy" thread where you haven't claimed the Kindle to be the second coming of Christ. Soo please look in the mirror.

I just sit back and what for you lies and distortions to spew out and I resonds.

Again has it ever occured to you when multiple people have called you out in the past on your lies and distortions that maybe the problem is you?

More BS!

If you buy a non International device and something happens, you are fried! You need to ship it back, which in some cases will be more expensive than the device itself; you do not want to ship something like an ereader via regular mail. So you end paying more, really stupid advice for a non american user. Is that your true advice for our European or Latin users? Kindle has direct warranty on some countries that are not USA. For instance, there is Kindle Colombia. You ship it back to them.

Yes, you need a B&N credit card to buy on B&N. As a matter of fact, for a Nook Color device, you need an account with them in order to start the device. Unless that changed since I sold mine months ago.

It is not that you can read epub or not, it is the support for the device! That is why you call a device truly International, when you have support when buying out of USA.

Again and for the last time You DO NOT NEED AN AMERICAN CREDIT CARD TO BUY AN EPUB BOOK FROM WEBSITES THAT SELL EBOOKS IN EPUB FORMAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW JUST WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

only ONLY ONLY are you seeing a pattern here JO YOU ONLY NEED AN AMERICAN CREDIT CARD WHEN BUYING AT BARNES AND NOBLE. BUT YOU CAN BUY BOOKS FROM OTHER SOURCES ( IS THIS RINGING LOUD AND CLEAR TO YOU JO, IS IT?)

If you look back at my original response, you would have noticed that I actually recommended the Sony because out of all three , sony has the longest history of international presence products and support.

Do not be stupid! Who is saying that? You need an american credit card and B&N account to access B&N content. It looks like you don't know what geo restrictions are for B&N and its content.

What a silly advice! Buying a Nook if you are a non american user to read free content from free websites. The device is $150.00 plus shipping. If breaks in following weeks ... what's your advice?

So? If I lived in India I would just shop at other ebook stores.

what exactly is not getting through your head?

and if you think you can buy a Kindle in every corner of the Earth and have a support team waiting, you are living in a fantasy world.

The Nook is not an international device, period. You need an American Credit card to access B&N content, period. You need an B&N account in order to browse its content and even to active some devices, period. If you are not in USA, how the user is going to do that? Using a proxy? will ask for your credit card? Don't you think that would be easier to get something that truly have that support without any of those workarounds?

You need a B&N account to activate your device!

What exactly are you defending! You just don't get it, right?

WRONG!!! YOU DO NOT NEED A B&N ACCOUNT TO ACTIVATE YOUR DEVICE OR TO OPERATE IT. ONLY TO BUY AND OPERATE A BN ACCOUNT.

Hey Joe simple question, do you need to a BN account, an American Credit card to buy books from anywhere that sells ePub?

Exactly!

How are you going to do that the 1st time, how are you going to register your device the 1st time, can you explain? And again, inventing things that I did not post. Because I never said to operate.

Yes, when I had my device, I had to create an having a valid account with B&N. And in order to do that, you must enter a credit card. If your credit card is not a USA one, the system will not accept you.

Again WRONG!!!!!

you just "skip" that option and then the nook is just a regular ereader that is not tied into BN's ecosystem.

you then just sideload your ePub PDB ore PDF books and you are all set. You do not need to set up a BN's account to operate the device.

What other lies and distortions you got?

also you never answered my question do you need an American Credit card to buy books from other ebookstores that sells ePub books?

You just don't know what you are talking about!

And defending your device as an International device is just silly, and a horrible advice for users who do not live in USA.

nope just defending it against your lies and distortions. Now I'll agree for international support I would go with the Sony if something breaks

but you lying about having to have an American Credit Card and how you NEED a Barnes and noble account to operate the nook. You are wrong and you know you are wrong which then of course makes it a lie.

so again to backtrack a bit. If someone outside of the US owned a nook, upon intial set up you would "skip" the setting up a BN account and then the nook becomes a regular ereader that's not tied into the Barnes and Noble eco systems.

You are then free to shop where you want as long as the ebookstore supports ePub, PDB and PDF's.

those are the facts Joe. but of course you already knew that
