Thanks for the heads up. Question. Are most books from Manybooks as poorly formatted as this one? I downloaded the Sony lrf and it's formatting is terrible.

Manybooks uses makelrf which was made in the old times of Librie and doesn't do much more than plain text.

Is it wrong for me to wait for illustrious JSWOLF to format this text for me?

Feel a little bad about not relying on self-reliance, but I can't even embed links in a posting

I'm still reading and fixing errors due to fi and fl. But it's overall in a pretty good format.

I still don't understand how this is happening. The HTML doesn't have this problem, the RTF I exported doesn't have this problem, only in BD does it crop up.

BD just doesn't like the letters fi and fl?

I have the RTF open in wordpad right now and its perfect, if I look at the source of the HTML the words Fiction and Find are both just text. What exactly is causing it?

Thanks,

-John

Look at the HTML source. I didn't notice until it was too far into the conversion. You'll see that fi and fl (both in lowercase) are not real ascii letters. Do a search and replace and fix it and you'll be able to loa dit in fine with BD.

Ligatures are, of course related to kerning in the sense of providing a certain 'look' to a page.

Yeah, I remembered that when someone posted about ligatures later. Had my terms mixed up. Sorry about that!

Well butter my backside and call me a biscuit, you are right. until I actually went INTO the source not just looked at it and tried to place the cursor between the f and the i did I notice I couldn't do it. I am replacing the fi and fl now, the rest of the formatting (italics and such are fine...) Though I have yet to have BD pick up on those properly.

Thanks!

I tried to fix the problem via Book Cleaner and it didn't work. Don't know why.

I got a reply. I'm in Ireland. Maybe you should try an email address that's not geographically specific. That could be the problem. They may not want to distribute too widely for the usual copyright reasons.
