@jersysman

Yay, thank you! I do hope the "android app coming soon" is genuinely soon - I can't think they'd have to make too many changes to port from the Nook Color app they apparently made.

I'm really open at this point. Just wanted to do a general hands on with things. Compare aesthetics. Get a feel for the weight of 10 inch devices. See if it truly would be worth getting rid of the NOOKcolor (not doing the custom ROM thing).

Thanks to you, I now have another one to consider:

I'm do not see any book titles when browsed the ap store last night, so you must be crazy.

For me the web browser if more than sufficient. I read newspapers, forums, and so on on the Nook Color with no significant issues noted. So far, happy with the upgrade.

You're welcome,

The choices have become real good, for me I'm waiting for an HTC Flyer form factor with the internals of the LG G-Slate. Until that happens I'm quite happy with my nook.

1.2 seems excrutiatingly slow and the WiFi is gulping down my battery charge. And yes I did a couple extra complete restarts to ward off any gremlins. Web browsing is clunky and Youtube videos are way to jerky and choppy. I personally cannot justify keeping this POS when the only thing it is good for is reading and the stock reader is garbage. It is a shame as the screen is the best LCD I've seen in the 6+ inch range. I'm going to stick with the iPad and Sony PRS-350.

The only saving grace in this 5+ month experiment is that I only bought one B&N overpriced book. All the rest were bought from Sony and Amazon, stripped of DRM, converted if necessary, and enjoyed without allowing the jerks at B&N the satisfaction of recouping any of their underwriting for the NC!

it would be interesting to see what your take on it would be if it had a apple logo on the back.

Browsing the app store, no.

But searching... seems like it. Go to the app store, click the search field at the bottom, and type in "Kindle". (I was looking for the Kindle app just to be funny.) You'll bring up a bunch of books about the Kindle. Books, not apps.

I don't know why they would make the app search results include books as well.

Why des every one hate the stock reader? I've found it better than adequate. And the the browsing is fast, youtube plays just fine.

And book pricing for the most part is the same evertywhere so that's not a big deal.

You obviously don't know me or you would know that I'm no Apple fan. I have an iPad because it works, but I generally hate Apple and their arrogance, and I definitely hate Steve Jobs. And I hate when friends call me on their iPhones because I cannot hear much of what they say--terrible phone. I'm more of a Windows and BlackBerry kind of guy.

If I criticize the NC it is because it deserves to be criticized, as does Google for producing a lackluster Android OS. Even Scion who used to be the loudest proponet of the NC has given up on it. To be honest, the only good thing about the NC is its terrific LCD screen, though it is a widescreen which is bad for reading. A reader is better off with a 4:3 screen like most of the eInk readers. The only thing a widescreen is good for is video.

If you read the red, italics portion of my signature you will see I have no loyalties to any hardware or OS vender.

I personally don't hate it, overall I think it's a decent device. I just find it weird that the Nook for Android app is better than the reader on the Nook Color, IMO, and it bugs me that you can't bookmark a PDF or at least have it pickup on the last page read. I know there's a PDF app now for $.99, but that only works if you have the PDF's on an SD card.

It also seems strange to me that they've gone out of their way to not include the basic google apps (email, calendar, etc.).

I just noticed that the charger light doesn't turn green after reaching a full charge. It always worked fine in 1.0-1.1, but perhaps 1.2 broke it. The charge indicator says Full Charge.

Battery is still draining rather quickly, so I'm thinking the idiots at B&N must have screwed up the battery drivers with this update as I never had any issues before.

I think there is no need for such language.

I personally consider the NC a pretty decent device given its price point.

Have you thought about Galaxy Tab wifi? I remember you were checking the 3G model a few months ago. Or you're more into a 10" inch tablet? You know, we are in TX , everything is bigger here, lol ...
