Hm, die Fanfiction direkt interessiert mich weniger, trotzdem danke schön für den Hinweis. Hast Du Dich bei der Bibliothek in Singapur angemeldet? Ging das problemlos oder muss man irgendwas beachten?

Das ist ganz einfach, nur eine sechsstellige Nummer (sie wollen eine Passnummer, aber wie sollen sie kontrollieren was in meinem Pass steht?) eingeben und einen Nick, nicht auf die Bestätigungsemail warten und los gehts. Nicht könnte leichter sein.

Jetzt erkläre mir doch bitte noch, wo der Unterschied ist zwischen einem Krimi mit Jane Austen und den anderen Büchern?

Ja, das ist mir beim Hinschreiben auch aufgefallen, dass das etwas widersprüchlich klingt. Vielleicht liegt der Unterschied für mich in der Originalität bzw. eigenständigen Leistung.
Die Fanfictions spinnen meist lediglich die Handlung der Jane-Austen-Bücher weiter oder geben sie aus einer anderen Perspektive wieder. Aber so richtig interessiert es mich nicht, ob Familie Darcy nun zwei oder sechs Babies bekommt bzw. ein bisschen Phantasie habe ich selbst. Irgendwie erinnern sie mich an Schreibübungen aus Kursen „Wie werde ich ein Schriftsteller” und für viele der Fanfictionadas sind sie das tatsächlich auch.
Ich kann natürlich noch nichts zu dem von Hokuspokus vorgestellten Buch sagen, aber ich hatte den Eindruck, dass es etwas Eigenständigeres sei. „Eine Krimi-Reihe mit Jane Austen als genau beobachtender "Ermittlerin" mit viel Menschenkenntnis” klang für mich zum einen ein bisschen wie Miss Marple (zugegeben, diese Idee wäre dann auch „geklaut”), zum anderen dachte ich, dass die Krimihandlung an sich und auch Mörder wie Ermordete und sonstige Handelnde nichts aus JA-Büchern geklettert, sondern selbst ausgedacht sind.
Aber Du hast natürlich recht, die Grenzen sind ziemlich unscharf.

Ich hab gestern zufällig die Titel der angesprochenen Bücher gesehen, als ich bei Amazon durch die "so ähnlich ist" Liste geklickt habe und da sah es für mich aus wie genau das: Fanfiction. Aber ich kann mich auch irren, weil ich genau die gleiche Abneigung//das gleiche Vorurteil habe. Möge sich doch bitte jede/r Schriftsteller/in eigene Figuren ausdenken!

Andererseits habe ich auch Drood gekauft und da spielen Wilkie Collins und Charles Dickens die Hauptrollen... Du hast Recht, man widerspricht sich da nur selbst. Ich werde mich lieber in vielsagendes Schweigen hüllen und rätselhaft aussehen

Gerade (gestern Nacht um halb eins) ausgelesen: Roberta Gellis - Bull God. Das ganze ist eine Nacherzählung des Minotaurus-Mythos als Fantasy-Geschichte, erzählt aus der Perspektive von Ariadne. Ich liebe die Griechische Mythologie, insofern bin ich da vielleicht etwas voreingenommen, aber ich fand's klasse. Die Kosmologie war zwar etwas schwammig und unklar (die "Götter" sind hier eine Sippe von Magiern, die aus einer Bergregion weit im Osten ins Mittelmeergebiet kamen), und das Ende war etwas schwächer als ich mir das gewünscht hätte, die Charaktere und Stimmungen waren aber gut eingefangen, und die Geschichte war spannend und unterhaltsam erzählt.

Demnächst in diesem Kino: Roberta Gellis - Thrice Bound. Nach dem Erfolg des vorigen Titels bleibe ich Genre und Autor erst einmal treu. :-)

Eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit zwischen der Jane Austen Mysteries von Stephanie Barron und Miss Marple (den Büchern, nicht den Filmen) besteht schon. Allerdings nur in sofern, als eben beide Ermittlerinnen mit viel Menschenkenntnis sind, die zufällig mit den Fällen in Berührung kommen.
Stephanie Barron hat das Leben der wirklichen Jane Austen gründlich recherchiert. Die Ereignisse hätten so stattfinden können.
Erzählt wird aus Janes Perspektive in Form von Tagebucheinträgen. Die Sprache scheint mir ziemlich gut getroffen. Alles ist reichlich mit Fußnoten versehen, die auf historische Ereignisse und Begebenheiten aus Janes Biografie verweisen oder Gepflogenheiten im damaligen England erläutern.

Personen in den Büchern sind Janes Familie, historische Persönlichkeiten und fiktive Figuren, aber keine Gestalten aus ihren Büchern.
