I remember reading that Australian Aboriginal mythology says that a woman becomes pregnant if a parakeet flies over her hut.

Can you visualize the scene; Inside a native hut... a 15 year old girl is in tears, shouting at her father... "But dad!! I didn't do anything wrong! A parakeet flew over our hut!"

Why do they always blame the poor parakeets? Those toucans can be pretty shady characters!

I don't know how to say this delicately, but I once had a girl ask me if she could get pregnant by having, um, backdoor? sex. I was helping in a health class at the time and just stared at the girl for a minute before I could answer. I then told the teacher we needed to go back over basic anatomy, because some obviously weren't listening.

I also pointed out to her that any sex was dangerous if condoms weren't used, especially the type she was talking about. Seriously, people, teach your kids at least the basics of anatomy and safety, even if it is to point out physical dangers of unprotected sex.

well, i can understand her naivete, if it's sincere. my parents never talked to me about sex, and i went to a protestant high school

so it's not a surprise that i once thought you could get pregnant from a kiss
