Made some beef barley stew.
I've mentioned this elsewhere, but don't think that anyone has tried it yet. Simmer (NOT LOW BOIL) the beef for two hours in just enough water/broth to keep the beef covered. Put in an EXCESS of your favorite spices. After two hours throw the water away and rinse the pot. What this does is to permeate the meat with your spices so that when you make the stew the meat will have an enhanced flavor. After that make the stew as you will, just remembering that the meat is already cooked so all you're really doing is cooking the veggies and adding spices to the stew in general. My favorite spices are garlic, onion, salt, and bay leaf. Vegetables are just about everything. Last edited by SameOldStory; 04-24-2011 at 10:16 AM. |

Lavender sugar cookies. Actually they're purple and not exactly ugly but kinda weird looking. Kroger couldn't sell them, so I got them for half price.

The things that we like and others hate are amazing.
I was able to find some fresh brussel sprouts. I made an entire meal out of 1.25 pounds of it! OK, objectively the smell is a little less than apple pie. But to me the flavor overrides the aroma. Just like kimchi, I like it, others hate it. Sushi, and sashimi, leave me totally uninterested. Others love it. |

when I was small, they made this kind of ice cream: mint flavor, plus chocolate bits. I swear it was the best ice cream I've ever eaten. Needless to say I was a loyal customer, always came to the nearest store twice to four times per day from Monday to Sunday. Happily bought ice cream. Whole-heartedly enjoyed it. after a while, they stopped selling that ice cream, and started making more of another kind of ice cream (fruit flavored - although they never said and I never figured out what fruits they were) which sucks. I always wanted to come to the factory and shout at the manager: "make it! I'll buy them all!" And they lost me as a potential customer (I was 8 at that time). I've never found any happiness in ice cream ever since. |

I'm on a soup kick. Somehow I just made the best batch of chicken and dumplings I've ever managed. Creamy sauce, perfectly done dumplings, great seasoning... and I have no idea what I did differently... LOL.

Scrambled egg, bacon (3 strips!), and cheddar sandwich on multi-grain bread, alongside a large Dunkin Donuts coffee.
Yum. |
