Well, that didn't work out as well as I hoped. Too many things going on in my life to *really* spend the whole day reading.

Finished Blood Engines, which was a fun read. An Urban Fantasy with an ass-kicking sorcerer who doesn’t wear a leather catsuit, doesn’t suffer from low self-esteem, doesn’t wallow in angst, and is almost always absolutely certain she’s right… even when she’s dead wrong. First chapter here.

Also started Consider Phlebas this afternoon. A couple chapters in and too early to tell if I'm going to like the book.

Just finished Dust by Arthur Slade - and a nice little YA novel it was too. If you like YA, you should probably have a look. I believe it's only 99c at the moment.

I'm now reading The Door to the Sky by David Michael.

Just finished Gilead by Marylynne Robinson. Shorter, but a bit heavier than what I've been reading lately. I really enjoyed it, though. An interesting story that kind of creeps up on you - slow moving at first, but the pace builds toward the end.

Finished The Wind in the Willows. Not my usual fare, but needed it for a reading challenge. Was actually quite good and brought back memories from when I read it as a kid. Surprising what your mind retains.

Now busy with World War Z by Max Brooks.

Just finished Love in the Time of Cholera.
A boring slow-paced read but i just couldn't put it down.

Next book would be The Kite Runner.

Stumbled across a H. G. Wells book I had not heard of before, reading that now.

I still have Blood Engines on my bookshelf. I made it through...chapter 3 or 4. The characters just did not grab me. Don't know why. I usually like tough females. This particular one didn't work for me. I kept the book because other people keep telling me how good it is so I feel I have to give it another shot...

I've always had a soft spot for those kind of stories. From Lord Kalvin of Otherwhen, The Jassinaries, Turrtledoves Videssos Cycle, and the newer The Axis of Time Trilogy... I think David Drake had one with Romans being used by aliens and David Webber one with English longbow men also used by aliens... oh William R. Forstchen's Lost Regiment though I've lost track of that series... I wonder if he's still writing books for it.
