It's been painful editing the HTML file. But I couldn't read the book with the messed up paragraphs. Glad to read that Tor is going to release future books in PDF and HTML.

Also, I now truly appreciate what a good editor brings to a book.

That would be nice. But as it stands, I'll just deal with my conversion and fix it as I read and find any errors.

She built a cult following, but Bantam/Spectra is the largest mass market PB house, and they need much more than cult sales. She's currently being published in the US by small press Night Shade Books, who are doing well with her "Detective Inspector Chen" novels, set in a near future where Singapore has spawned a franchise -- Chen is a police officer in Singapore3. It's fantasy because Chinese mythology is very real in Singapore3. Chen is the "snake agent" -- the department specialist in crimes involving the supernatural. His wife is a demon, and he finds himself partnered with Zhu Irzh, a Seneschal of the Ministry of Vice in Hell. Hell has laws too, and demons whose job is to enforce them. I'm reading the third one now, and it's a delight. The series is doing well enough that Night Shade is happy to issue them. (And I've met the Night Shade folks. They are delighted to be able to publish Liz.)
I really liked her first book Ghost Sisters. It is one of the few science fiction books that I have read that have used philosopy in a good way. You notice that she know he subject (she has a Phd in philosophy). I asked her about the philosophy at a BSFA meeting in London and the things I had noticed as especially interesting was according to her intentionally put there. A paper copy of Snake Agent is currently half a meter from my computer and will be read aftet i have read Ian McDonals Brasyl.

I believe her PhD is actually in Artificial Intelligence. But yes, she has the formal philosophy training.

I'm not surprised.

And she spent time in international education, living in places like Kazakhstan, so a good bit of her backgrounds in the books is drawn from observation.

You are in for a treat, but I suspect you know that.

I am pretty sure that is not the case since i would remember it since that was the area I studied and have this "everything but thesis degree" in. As I remember it her thesis was in philosophy of science.

Hmmm, let's see: degrees in Philosophy and AI from Universities of Manchester and Sussex, and PhD from Cambridge. Yep. Right you are.

I don't know if anyone's stopped fiddling with the format for long enough to actually read "Mistborn", but if you enjoyed it, you might like to know that Brandon Sanderson has another novel for free, a new one, as yet unpublished in dead tree format (DTF?), available in lots of formats at http://manybooks.net/titles/sanderso...arbreaker.html

In case you didn't know, he's the guy who's been given the job of writing the last Wheel of Time book, following Robert Jordan's death.

Yep. He's been serializing it on line, and seems to have completed it.

I got a reply from TOR and they know if the complaints and will have HTML available for the next free eBook. YEAH!

Finally finished formatting the book for MobiPocket and I'm very happy with the results. I;m enjoying the book, now I can only hope Tor will release the second Mistborn book in an electronic format.

Here is the email I received...

Yes, we've heard the complaints, as well. We thought that PDF would be the most user-friendly format, hence our choice. However, we'll start offering HTML in addition to the PDFs, this week.

Thanks for your thoughtful feedback.
