Angry Waterstones Humpf

I found that I can't get "Sharpe's Sword" from Amazon for my kindle, so I went to Waterstones and bought there. Can anyone tell me how to get it from Adode Digital Editions to my kindle? Orrr should I just cheat and sign up with a torrent site and pirate it.

I'm confused you saw it was available for your kindle so went to Waterstones and bought it in a non compatible format and now want to transfer it to your kindle, why would you do that ?

Transferring it will involve removing DRM and converting it to mobi, removing the DRM can not be discussed here. Either remove the DRM or get it from the darknet, your choice. Next time just buy it from amazon if you intend it to be used on your kindle.

He said that he "can't" get it from Amazon. Looking at the Amazon website doesn't appear to be available for the UK buyers.

Google the phrase "Apprentice Alf Blog" and read the entry about DRM and the perplexed to learn how to convert from one format to another. I'd recommend that over the pirate sites because unfortunately due to DRM strangleholds this is a common problem and you'll probably want to know how to do it again someday in the future.

But why the thread title "Waterstones Humpf?" You went to them, bought a book and got exactly what you paid for... it isn't their fault that it isn't a Kindle format and you either knew that or didn't check... seems to me that they did what they were supposed to and youe thread title would have been more to the point as "Kindle Humph"

He's in the UK, so removing DRM would be a criminal offence whereas downloading an unauthorised copy would be a civil offence. He isn't likely to get caught doing either, but if he was caught one would lead to a criminal record and possible loss of job (depending on job), being banned from working/volunteering with children, etc, and the other wouldn't.

Thanks for the tip about the blog, I'll at least have a look at it.
I'm a bit of a noob at this and am a bit confused as to how a big seller like amazon wouldn't have the whole series, I guess I was naive to just expect that they would.

Not to worry, welcome to mobileread

You need books in azw or mobi/prc format for your kindle....it is possible to convert the version you purchased. For that you need to remove the DRM (Google is your friend for how to do that - even if it brings you back to old threads here on Mobileread.) Once you have got rid of that, Calibre... will help convert it .... with further advice to be found in the Calibre Forum

You'll find lots of issues regarding ebooks - wait until you are geographically restricted from your next purchase ....

Sounds like He was already geographically restricted, the US amazon site sells the book but the UK amazon does not. Silly restrictions you would think the publishers would want to sell at as many places as possible..

Thanks all for your replies.
TBH I thought that Waterstones was Adobe and that I would be able to get it to my kindle reasonably easily, without having to break any laws, apparently not.
I am happy that I have paid for my book, I'm not at all into pirating anything and I'm sure that I would infest my pc with all sorts of nasties if I tried.
I just want to put the book that I paid for onto MY kindle and think that if we are to take over the world with ebooks and save all the trees than these things should be a little interchangeable.
Like I say, I'm a noob, and I will look more carefully in the future.
Anyhow, thanks again.

And lots agree... thiss has long been the subject of extreme acrimony between ereader users and publishers/retailers... welcome to the world of illogical incompatibilities... But don't forget that when ebooks take over the world, there will be fewer trees... those converted to paper are grown specifically for making paper and when harvested, they are replaced... no need for paper then no need for trees for pulp...

Good luck with your conversion project... and the best irony in this... Bernard is a UK author!
