Noobie Questions
Hi,
I just installed Calibre today and have been messing about with and am very pleased so far. I am mostly using it to convert mobi to epub so I can fix errors within the books, then convert them back to mobi so I can read them on Kindle. If anyone knows a more efficient method please let me know! I noticed when I convert to epub and then back to mobi that the images within the book shrink. When zoomed they still come to full size but without the zoom they are about 40-50% smaller. Does anyone know why this is? Is this just the way the Kindle reads the file after it has been in epub format? I also noticed that when I have mobi --> epub --> mobi a book, they frequently have the chapter skips in the progress bar on Kindle when they had none before. Obviously this is a most welcome improvement but I am curious as to what action I am taking that automatically adds this feature so I can use it intentionally ![]() And my last little question would be: Is there a way to simply set a year in the publish date for the metadata? It only seems to allow a month/year format. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

The image size thing is most likely due to the output profile you've chosen, but not entirely sure about that. Try a different profile under 'page setup' in the conversion options.
Regarding the chapter tics, read here (and the linked kindle/mobi faq therein): https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=129364 |

In answer to your publish date question, there is a tweak in preferences -> tweaks to set the date format. However this only takes full effect on the edit metadata dialog. On the library view itself last time I checked it will always use month and year even if you only put year in the tweak. That is hardcoded into the program and I suspect it is because of the requirements of the date picker.
It doesn't hugely bother me since I have got used to double clicking on the year part before typing. And if you have a situation of multiple books in that year you can ensure sort order by using the month. |

It will display yyyy, but when you try to edit it you are forced to use MM yyyy when editing in the library view. On the edit metadata dialog you can edit in just yyyy. That was the inconsistency I didn't explain very well

Since I never edit this field in any view I have now gained new insight. Thanks.

Thanks very much! I guess I had tunnel vision and missed all the options right in front of me.
