Thinking about trying indie books?

The Indie Spotlight is a great site to check out both non-fiction and fiction books by self-published authors and independent publishers. If you've never visited, check it out: http://www.theindiespotlight.com/

It's a sharp-looking site, very well done, and one of the great things is the variety of books they cover. It's a good site to get a feel for the book before you buy it. Edward C. Patterson & Greg Banks do a great job.

Yes independent marketing efforts by a plethora of readers/writers/editors is the wave of the future. I noticed a donation button on your site, how do you feel about asking all your book uploaders to become a more integral part of the site itself by allowing their books to be made available in their entirety for free while at the same time receiving equal portions of any donations made?

At first you would have to put a limit on the number of books you promote each month but that limit could be raised over time.

I just realized you might not be an admin at that site, still, what do you think about that free to read and then donate idea?

In my experience, which I'll admit up front is extremely limited, the donation model isn't really that effective. The people who donate are incredibly generous, but also quite rare in terms of overall traffic. This isn't because people don't want to pay for quality material, or rather that they're unwilling to do so, but more because people tend to be a little lazy and put off and eventually forget to donate after reading. I, being one of these, know of what I speak.

It's a nice idea, but except in certain niche areas I don't think it's effective.

Where Dreams are Born, an e-book or print book from a small publisher.

After enduring traumatic childhoods, a single mom and a widower struggle to create a stable family life for their children despite those who would do them harm.

“Joyce DeBacco does a really good job of getting the reader invested in the outcome of this unusual pairing. Enjoy.” S. Wurman of Night Owl Reviews.

“This is truly a compelling novel of real life and will stay with me a long time”. Judith of The Book Binge.

“Joyce DeBacco pens one of those tales that is warm and loving while still mixed with trials that will touch a reader's heart.” Dee Dailey of The Romance Studio

Only .99 from Smashwords!

He calls himself the Coppersmith…

A religious fanatic bent on murder, he begins systematically eliminating pastors in Upstate New York. From small towns to large cities he selects his victims, seemingly at random, and subjects them to a torturous death.

Janelle Becker is the agent with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit charged with solving the crimes. But even with the Bureau’s resources, she finds herself ill-prepared to unravel the Coppersmith’s message. Why do his methods keep changing? How can they know where he’ll strike next? And can she escape her own dark past before it’s too late?

As she and her fellow agents track down the clues of the Coppersmith, they find themselves following an ancient itinerary that hearkens back to the steps of the apostle Paul. It becomes a race against this faceless killer as they struggle to predict his movements and get ahead of his deadly message of judgment. Can they stop him in time?

Here to shamelessly promote my niche item book, Life Games. This is my collection of mostly dark contemporary poetry.
This is the Amazon version, I'm still working some bugs out of the formatting on the Smashwords version, will edit this post to link that in once I'm happy with it.

Only 2.99 for a glimpse into my psyche during very troubled years.

When I first created the Starfarers ebook, I made some newbie formatting errors. I discovered them, to my dismay, and corrected them. They particularly affected the EPUB version.

Starfarers (in its corrected format) is up and running in the Free Ebooks section of Book View Cafe. I hope that if you have the poorly-formatted version, you'll go to http://www.bookviewcafe.com/index.php/Free-eBooks and download a new copy, using the StarfarersGuest login information on that page.

If you bought the book, please log in with your regular BVC username and download the corrected copy.

As usual, I'm always grateful for a heads-up on any problem with BVC ebooks in general and my own titles in particular.

Best,

Vonda

Rubies and Other Gems – the Novel, an e-book now on sale for a limited time only.

Lily’s life isn’t going well. Her husband is clueless; her children are rudderless. It's little wonder she seeks comfort in her dreams, unaware that grandmother’s rubies have transported her back through time to a safer, saner existence.

When she learns that her dream lover is not a dream after all, but a real man who lived and died years before she was born, family problems mount. Because she can’t repair the damage from the past, she vows to stay in the here and now. She almost succeeds when she accidentally sends herself back in time without her return ticket, the rubies.

"I would recommend this novel as one of those books that moves the reader through the days, months, and years of living, that open the reader's awareness to circumstances that, in this case, may be just a bit unique.” Judith of The Book Binge.

First two chapters on joycedebacco.com. Thanks for reading.

My crime noir thriller False Refuge is featured at Babs' World of Book Reviews with an interview and e-book giveaway that ends April 30. Here's the link: http://babs-worldofbooks.blogspot.co...-giveaway.html

There's also an e-book giveaway for my novel The Losing Role over at Stimulated Outlet Book Reviews. Reviewer Alice Yeh is offering the historical espionage thriller as one of the top three thrillers she's rated the highest. This one ends May 5: http://www.stimulatedoutlet.com/2011...threebies.html

Also, for anyone looking for an "antique book," aka a paperback: Goodreads has a giveaway for The Losing Role that ends in four days. As of today (April 26), roughly 950 readers have entered to win, putting the book in the top tens for most requested thrillers, mysteries, and historical fiction, and at number two for adventure fiction. You can enter for that one here: http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...he-losing-role

Noch etwas: Hallo deutsche Leser! All meine Romane sind auch jetzt in der Kategorie Englische Bücher im Kindle-Shop bei Amazon.de zu probieren und kaufen. Check es aus!

Thanks, danke, and happy reading,
Steve

Below is some info on my epic fantasy series, Harbinger of Doom. BTW - Book 1, The Gateway, won 3rd Best Fantasy Novel of 2009 in the Preditors & Editors Readers Poll and is on sale for .99 cents at Amazon.com. All books in the series are available in paperback and ebook versions at such retailers as Barnes and Noble, the Sony ebook store, the Apple Itunes store, Kobobooks.Com, and Smashwords.Com

Summary of Reader Reviews:

“...as good as any fantasy tale you will read, it honors the tradition, and adds to our lore a story so good, so well told, I hope it will be remembered forever.” --- Rai Aren, co-author of Secret of the Sands

“...fast paced and exciting with characters real enough to leap out of the pages...leaves the reader craving more.” --- Franz McLaren, author of Demon Drift and A Night of Dark Delicacies

“...Non-stop action that is written so well you can't stop reading it!” -- G.A. Endless, author of Issla: A Vampire Living in the 21st Century

“...The author paints each scene and battle so clearly that I felt I was in the middle of the action.” --- Mike Monahan, author of Barracuda.

“...The Gateway delivers straight up heroic fantasy with unapologetic hack and slash action.” -- Tracy Falbe, author of The Rys Chronicles

“...fast-paced, action-packed fantasy.” --- Debra Purdy Kong, author of Taxed to Death and Fatal Encryption

“...An adventure into magic and fantasy that pulls you in and does not let go...left me wanting more.”
--- R.M. Putnam, author of Destiny’s Warriors

“...the action never stops.” --- Susan McLeod, author of Soul and Shadow

Thater tells this tale “...in a voice as pretentious as Tolkein’s.” -- Dennis Batchelder, author of Soul Identity and Soul Intent.

“...an excellent foray into dark story adventure.” -- Jacamo Peterson, author of A Hard Place: A Sergeant's Tale, and Blademaster of Norda.

THE HARBINGER OF DOOM SAGA

The Harbinger of Doom saga centers around one Lord Angle Theta, an enigmatic warrior of unknown origins and mystical power. No mortal man is his match in battle. No sorcery can contain or confound him. No scholar or sage can outwit him. But for all his skills, he is but one of us; a man, a human, who shares our faults, our dreams, and our ambitions. He boldly strides across the land, fearless, peerless, and cloaked in mystery; all his will bent on righting such wrongs as he deems fit.

Until the day the Gateway opened and turned the world on its head. On that fateful day, Korrgonn came and washed away our dreams. And his outre' realms of chaos set their unholy mark upon our world and claimed it for their own.

Only Theta and his companions see the enemies aligning against us. Only they foresee our end coming -- the end of civilization, the end of the world of man. Only they can hope to turn the tide of madness and preserve all that we hold dear.

But no man, not even our greatest hero, can stand against the Lords of Chaos and the dark armies of Nifleheim at their command. Fiends that infiltrate unseen within our ranks, that tear down our temples and our traditions; that devour us from within, unseen, unknown, unheralded, and unopposed until the hour grows far too late.

Through the murk and mist that hangs before our eyes, one man only sees true. One man pierces the veil of magic that blinds us all and marks the world as it truly is, revealing secrets, secrets of Angle Theta, so horrifying as to shatter a man's mind and call into question the very nature of good and evil.
Join us now on our journey back to the days of high adventure.

PRISMATICA - coupon for free ebook!

Hello, all! I'm an indie author and I am promoting my ebook "Prismatica", a collection of interconnected horror stories that reads more like a novel. As one reader has pointed out, it reads like a collaboration between Stephen King and Quentin Tarantino.

Use this coupon code (CK65X) for a free download of the book at Smashwords.

In return, I only ask you to please leave a review on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

Synopsis:
1993- Michael Duncan is a rural police officer. He meets a mysterious young girl during a routine search and rescue mission in the woods of Soldier Creek, a haunted stream on the outskirts of Mason's Post, Missouri. His encounter with this tortured girl has consequences that reach nearly twenty years into the future, when a madman possessed by something dark and primal threatens to tear apart a family... and the fabric of reality itself. As Michael's story unfolds in four different sections, the mystery only becomes more maddening. Why was he chosen? And where will he go when he's fulfilled his destiny?

The "Prismatica" collection is a companion and prelude to the upcoming fantasy series by L. David Hesler.

I should've mentioned in my plug 3 or 4 postings back that Rubies and Other Gems - the Novel is priced at a low .99 in the US, .70 in the UK, and whatever is the comparable price in Germany.
