I so doubt there will be an Apple eBook anytime soon.

Nate is taking the happy pills again. This time he is so WAY off base he's not even in the same ballpark.

A one function device is not aPple's way. Forget a book reader.
But... considering the advances aPple has made in miniaturizing components for the mAc aIr, a yOu mpc could be plausible. (Oh brother! what a bad pun) ![]() As any computer it would do ebooks but in a more user friendly size. |

Apple and eight shades of eink grey just don't seem compatible in the same sentence. If it's a device that could be used as an ebook reader, my incredibly uniformed guess is that it would have to be LCD and also a wifi-enabled multitouch device capable of browsing, music, video, and probably a phone, too. But that's probably just my wishes making me delusional again. So what would be so wrong with an iSlate iTablet?

![]() There is a tablet market out there and a good one. The main problem has always been price difference, why buy a 2000 dollar tablet when you get a similarly functional laptop for a third that value. As for the limit of B&W, Jobs has been griped at a long time for those first Macs and might not want to repeat that. An iTouch Slate? Hmmmm! that's a sweet sounding device; definitely LCD though. |

Who knows, maybe reading is the new black.
Additional software could turn any of the iPhones into iReaders or even large screen iPods into iReaders. Apple would not have to make a single function device to enter the ebook market. It would be a logical extension of the iTunes store. Given Apple's history of providing disposable content, it makes sense that they would offer a device/software designd to deliver time sensitive content -- magazines -- rather than evergreen products such as classic books. |

And may I add that an iSlate would be a perfect magazine reading tool, even if only LCD. All you mention above would be possible only if aPple wants ebooks to be available on its products. So far they have deliberately set text apart. |

Pretty cool speculation abounding. It would be nice to have a new eBook device out there, though I'd prefer to stick with an eInk version for the sake of power-consumption. Apple has recently rolled out the "big" update to Leopard the other day and they've already updated most of their line-up. One SKU they haven't updated lately is the MacBook Pro; maybe they have some update for that?
It is interesting of the quote from Jobs about people not reading anymore, wonder what they have up their sleeves? The iPhone/iPod Touch SDK has been in the pipes for a few months now and is slated for a release at the end of the month, but too really see no reason to have a big event simply for the release of something of interest to dev's only (sorry to take the wind out of those sails though, because dev has been flourishing without it). Let's keep our fingers crossed for a new reader! ![]() |

I just love the idea of reading ebooks in their native formats (pdf, doc, prc, lrf, html, etc.) in multiple windows while having another window open for making notes. Add a web browser, color, tunes and put it all together in a one or two pound touch-screen device about 8-1/2 x 11 inches and...and... wait, I'm getting dizzy. Let me sit down for a minute. Where's my checkbook, anyway?!

Okay, I'm guessing most of you were on board with me until you saw my suggestion of an 8-1/2 x 11 inch footprint. I see now that the rumored size of the iSlate last fall was only 4-3/4 inches. Poo! I'm really not interested in anything smaller than the 6" readers we have now. I would actually like to do something real with the thing and am skeptical of a small device unless it had really incredible resolution.

![]() Personnally I'd settle for a 6 by 8 screen, that is without the bezel. If they can make it thin like a mAcbook aIr, I'll be rushing for my chekbook too! |

You want it to be like the Macbook Air. So just get a Macbook Air.
