Not really. I'm generally pretty reliable, but just totally didn't get the phone call. Will follow up today.

And I knew there was a restart of our CAT system last night, but it had slipped my mind (which is totally focused on my daughters issues )

Understand completely, it's amazing how important things crowd the front of the memory, and the less important tend to slip to the back. Hope everything works out for you and your daughter.

I presume it was TPZ instead of AZM because it's a poetry book and thus needs "better" page layout. but still...

Oh well, I can still read it on all my Android devices or computer....(just not on my sony)

Me, too! I can't complain about it nearly as much as I did before I retired, though. I used to hate it when I was up at 3:00 a.m. knowing I had to get up for work in another couple of hours! You have a lot on your mind right now with the trip and the party -- hopefully it'll get better when you get things under control!

I'm thinking not. I passed it on my way through Cincinnati and it was mumbling something about stupid North American weather patterns and if we weren't ready to see him he was just going to pack off to the Bahamas for a week or so until we get it sorted out.

So you're in for cold, clouds, and snot. But at least you're feeling a bit better!!

Feel free to ignore this one: It's spawned by this article in the Chicago Tribune:

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/...nsportati.html

The url about says it all, apparently Ray LaHood is "embarrassed" by cases of air traffic controllers sleeping on the job. Here's my rant:

When employers, and this includes the federal government, learn that employees are also humans, and need rest, regular breaks, and humane scheduling, maybe this sort of thing will stop. People have lives outside of work and employers need to learn this. If you wouldn't work those hours, don't schedule your employees to do so. If the controllers in question had had enough time to rest between shifts, they wouldn't have been napping. The fact that they were tells me something is seriously wrong with the way they are scheduled. Employers need to count this as a non negotiable cost of doing business. If you can't make your profit level and still treat your employees humanely, then you need to rethink your profit margins. This especially applies to low wage hourly employees (think Walmart and McDonald's), but the mistakes made in those jobs aren't likely to cost a plane full of passengers their lives. Today's labor laws are a complete joke. Several states have no legislation whatsoever regarding breaks. How "humane" is it to have someone stand at a register, or run a drive-thru line with no bathroom break and nothing to drink for five, six, or seven hours straight? It isn't, is the answer. Several businesses I know of ignore with impunity the "one day rest in seven" act. Why? Because they know they can get by with it. And these same businesses insist they treat their workers "well". Okay, rant over... for now.

I remembered following happen on a train trip:
Announcement: ladies and gentlemen, In case there's a train conductor travelling privately, please report to the personnel.
on the next halt: ladies and gentlemen - this train will end here, because the conductor in charge is 6 hours over his last mandatory rest for this shift. Currently there is no personnel availableto take the shift over .

nuff said isn't it?

This has been all over NPR as well, the one thing that makes me angry is LaHood's comment that no air traffic controllers will sleep during their breaks while he is in charge. Despite the fact that there have been several studies done (a couple of them specifically for him) that all say that even short 15 or 20 minute naps would be beneficial. But he has to come up with his infantile "not on my watch" statement. Why!? Does he think that that is what the tax payers want? That we'll be angry if find out someone took a nap on their break? Or is it just some thought in the back of his mind that he's going to be a jerk and put his foot down.

I sincerely hope there are no serious accidents from anyone falling asleep on the job but if there are I hope someone sues his but off - right after they pull his head out of it.

Excuse me whilst I swear a few times, kick over the odd mushroom growing in the corner and swear a few more times.

Major PC crash with Win7 looping through repair and not finding anything to repair, but refusing to proceed beyond the windows startup window.

Win7 refuses to recognise any of the disk images that I create each month. So I am forced to do a clean install from installation discs.

Daily backups haven't backed up everything they should do, or restore them to their original locations - luckily windows.old was created by the Win7 installation process and seems more reliable though needs a manual transfer - but at least it works !

I'm slowly coming back to where I should be though some programs need re-downloading with no doubt a few chosen words along the way. At least photos and Calibre Library are intact.

Logon records via NIS Security have gone awol - some vital !!!!

Still one hell of a way to waste 5 hours of a night to get a 'clean' system ..... !!!!!!!

Sorry for your loss, grief counseling is suggested in these cases and a roll back to Windows XP doesn't hurt either.

That seriously sucks, I hope you manage to get it back, for me the loss in confidence is the biggest problem. Good luck!
