So if one creates copyright and another disregards the act of creation, does copyright still exist?

That would depend on the state of the bears digestive tract and what the bear had consumed that day, the temperature etc..

I think copyright does not exist therefore it does not.

No, it depends entirely on the nostrils smelling it, and my nostrils tell me that the fallacies in your adolescent attempts at logical discourse on copyright and ownership in general ...... well, lets just say there's a bear nearby.

Perhaps you are an illusion yourself, existing not in ours, but in a parallel universe without copyright?

Perhaps, but I am not sure that the distances between the two parallels would be enough to discriminate between the two, for all intents and purposes the universe's would be the same. Any conflict of ideologies must be reconciled with each other. In such matters it would be best to give favor to those ideologies that do less harm as it were, or conversely do more good.

Since an abolishment of copyright would allow me to read anything that I want, while at the same time allowing me to continue to pay those artists that I feel should be paid, it is definitely the best solution in my universe and should seriously be considered for adoption in yours.

This is the issue. YOU don't get to choose.

The creator of the intellectual property gets to choose.

I give mine away and ask for donations. Do you want to guess how much money I have made so far? It's a nice ideal to work towards, but it just wouldn't work. You would need to move towards an advert funded model, or go back to government grants for artistic types funded through taxes. Or have something like the Uk library system where writers get paid a small amount each time one of their books is borrowed (downlaoded), again paid through taxation. None of those would be particularly popular at this moment in time.

There's always patronage. If one ultra-rich person got their own Court Novelist, I'm sure the rest of the world's High Mucky-Mucks would follow.

I have a book listed as donationware and at last count have not seen any donations in the donation bank, I have sold a few copies preread though But those sales were directly related to word of mouth advertisting.

I've read a little about the UK Library system, but I don't like the idea of tying revenue to downloads, simply because the books might not be read.

It seems to me that getting people attached to the site of download, while also offering quality books might be enough to get people to donate to keep the flow of quality ebooks into their ereaders. The site would earn revenue through advertising, cuts of donations, subscriptions and other things that I haven't thought of yet. It could be an ebook consortium where all users are actually the owners of the site.

You would need some incentive for people to donate, just a promise of continuing to get free stuff wouldn't really be enough.

What you are suggesting is like what we have now, where some people volunteer to pay for things they could easily get for free. But if it was legally sanctioned most people would just stop paying.

If you look at fully functioning shareware versus crippled trialware you'll find that more people pay for the trialware. If it's not crippled there's no incentive to pay.
