Like any rumor take this with a grain of salt, but Peter Rojas over at gdgt claims he is 99% certain Amazon has chosen Samsung to build their tablet.

Not real surprising news considering Amazon has an Android App store, Cloud Music storage. The next progression really is to hook people into those products by selling real cheap hardware that integrates nicely with Amazon.

Ok, I read it and it's not different from anything else that any of the other tech sites have written. We don't need another me-too Android tablet. They can just do the apps instead of hardware for those (and they have).

If there is a part of the market that is under-served it is competition for the iPod Touch...which makes up a significant portion of iOS sales.

Unlikely, but gimme feature and price parity device with the iPod Touch (ok...a slightly bigger screen

) and the always on 3G of the Kindle 3G and I'd buy one tomorrow.

My point was that Amazon did it in house (as in house as a subsidiary can be). I can't see why a tablet would be any different.

I remain a skeptic.

Bezos has said multiple times that he's not interested in a tablet, and that the most important thing for Amazon is the reader experience and to get people to buy more e-books. I just have a hard time seeing them abandoning that position now. They've already got their software running on Android tablets, which seems to be what they were really going for. The cloud software they released makes it easier for people to use Amazon music. What does a tablet bring to the table? All it does is put them in more direct competition with Apple, which isn't exactly a great place to be.

You might want to keep an eye on Samsung, they are releasing a 4" and 5" Super AMOLED device this summer that is geared to go head to head with the iPod Touch.

Speed to enter a new space. They might not have the Android expertise and tablet expertise to enter this space in a timly manner. Partnering up with sombody who does will allow them to enter this space running.

I never believe CEO, they either make it a practice to lie or change their mind on a whim.

Personally I don't think Apple is their concern. I think it's really is B&N. With B&N having more than 3Million ereaders(mini android tablets) and an app store on it's way they are very concerned.

That mythical device has been geared up to go for a long long time and it still hasn't gone...

I think Amazon will move forward with some sort of inexpensive, sun-friendly colour device the enhances the reading experience of the Kindle platform before they simply have Samsung build an Android device for them. That Mirasol technology we once saw is still in development and would work well for all kinds of ebooks ... text books for example.
