@snorkle and any others who are interested in converting fonts to the kindle / reproducing Georgia2 for Kindle 3:
I posted instructions for this a little while back. Take a look here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=88004&page=89 |

Unable to USBNetwork on Kindle DX US White
I tried whatever is given on the site...
1) Installed hack of 0.6.N but it fails with U007 error and hence tried 0.4 and it worked 2) Installed Usbnet 3) enabled debugOn and usbNetwork using search But even now when I connect Kindle DX (US, white) it detects as USB drive and never asks me for a driver for ethernet connection... I wanted to connect my Kindle to Internet.. I am using Windows 7 PC |

@pavimans: A U007 error usually means your Kindle isn't jailbroken. And the tethering stuff is completely untested/unsupported, so you're on your own on this one (It *should* be working, though, AFAICT).

Hey there! I've been using these hacks (for the screensavers) since I got my Kindle and it's sweet. But I was trying to download the custom fonts hack today (for Kindle 3, listed in the first post here), and they are only showing up as an 'attachment.php' file. I can't figure out how to expand it either, I tried RAR reader, but that didn't work, but I guess to be expected. Any help?

@The Pfhor: Probably a browser quirk, working fine here (Chromium 11/FX 4.0).

A bunch of updates, mostly because of the use of an updated toolchain, and an updated whitelist.
* JB: Updated whitelist (there's no version bump because only the whitelist has been updated, and you can simply replace the one in linkjail/etc on your Kindle from the one in the zip) * Fonts v4.5.N: Updated FT libs & binaries (updated ft, fc, new tc) * ScreenSavers v0.21.N: Updated binaries (updated coreutils, new tc) * USBNetwork v0.33.N: Updated binaries (updated rsync, new tc) Try to fix dos line endings in the config file (instead of considering it broken and falling back to defaults). The x-tc tarball has been updated accordingly (FYI, bumped GCC to 4.5 from Linaro & binutils to 2.21) A slight note to users of the Fonts hack: If you suddenly happen to encounter weird issues with an FT override (particularly the 'white screen/broken font' folks), please do let me know, updating the compiler & flags might have brought its share of weirdness ![]() |

Hi, NiLuJe.
I've modify your USBNetwork v0.32.N, allow tethering Kindle's 3G network by running privoxy inside Kindle, configure it automatically. Finally, set browser's proxy to 192.168.2.2:8118, Kindle's 3G network can be tethered. Please have a look at https://github.com/azuwis/kindle-usbnetwork/ , especially this commit https://github.com/azuwis/kindle-usb...589bbcdd619fe1 Note that only tested on Kindle DXG. |

I'm a bit irritated, I had applied JB, fonts and SS quite a while back (Kindle Version 3.0.3) and had never activated wireless ever since, until today.
My kindle downloaded an update and installed it (3.1) without me giving consent. However, SS and fonts are still in the "hacked" state. I can't really read up 50 pages in this thread, so, should I do something? It's working as far as I can tell -- so "never touch a running system"? Or will I be running into issues? I'm perfectly fine with my current fonts and SS. --- the "latest" files I have on my hard disk (=version on my kindle) kindle-jailbreak-0.2.N kindle-fonts-4.0.N-k3 kindle-ss-0.11.N Kindle now is on 3.1 |

@[Ahmed]: If you want to be able to update/uninstall hacks, you'll have to install the latest jailbreak version, on top of what you have right now. Other than that, you're good to go

Another string of quick updates (JB v0.7.N, SS v0.22.N, Fonts v4.6.N), to fix a very stupid whitelisting bug that prevented a bunch of hacks from being installed... -_-"
There's two different ways of updating the JailBreak: * The quick way: just replace your linkjail/bin/linkjail file with the one from the latest zip. * Or the long way: Uninstall the jailbreak, then install the latest vesion (that's because you can't just install the latest version on top of the previous one, like the other hacks. [That's primarily done to avoid mixing jailbreak versions and potentially wreaking havoc on unsuspecting users ^^]). NB: This primarily concerns users running FW 3.1 ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 04-20-2011 at 01:20 PM. |

Cannot read chinese fonts
hi,
I cannot read chinese after completed the installation. I first used jailbreak packs from blogkindle. The update was successful (i can see the fonts all changed to san serif) but it could't show Chinese. And i fail to uninstall now. And then I found this site! I tried the latest update files: update_jailbreak_0.7N_k2i.install.bin and update_fonts_4.6N_k2i.install.bin The update was also "successful" Again I can now see the fonts changed - with some serif fonts coming back. But still it could't show Chinese. Instead of appearing like squares with crosses inside in non-jb version, the chinese characters only appear like empty boxes now. ![]() ![]() I've already spent hrs on this without any success. Would be really grateful for help and advices! [I actually tried to restore factory settings after failing to uninstall, but the UFH 0.3 is still there!] Do you have any advice for me? My Kindle Kindle 2 International Software: Kindle 2.5.8 + UFH 0.3 THANKS!! ![]() |
