As a tangent: proofreading is actually the one thing I love the keyboard on the Kindle for. Very easy to take notes while I'm doing smooth reading. I don't really feel like I should be stuck proofing purchased books, though…

For those interested in the fine art of proofreading from OCR scans, follow that link above (smooth reading), click on the Distributed Proofreaders title @ top-left-page, see what's what and then join up. Proofreaders and formatters all wanted ...

For those who haven't noticed it yet: Amazon announced that it is going to work with Overdrive to offer ebook access via libraries.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...584356140.html

So, hearkening back to Post #1 of this thread: By this time next year, libraries are likely to "invite" Kindles to their ebook events.

I think that's a better note to end this thread than with a mod warning and a lock.

I'm not going to apologize for not multi-quoting. In fact, the more people keep pointing it out in such a rude manor, the more it won't happen.

I'm sorry you have such a rude manor but one day you may be able to afford a better manor or improve the one you have... then there's manners in general which should always be improved...

It is a bad idea if the books are in Kindle format, because libraries will now have to split their strained budgets over an additional format.

Bottom line: Amazon's entry will see libraries purchasing fewer new titles.

How is that good for library patrons?

What I've read is that it is an idea you hate - which isn't all that much of a shock given the amount of your life that is seemingly spent in anti-Kindle activity.

Since nobody outside of Amazon or Overdrive seems to have any details on how and when the Overdrive Kindle lending program will be operated, whether or not it is a bad idea or the best idea evah! remains to be seen.
