USB charger ac adapter part lost - replacements

Just purchased a Nookcolor while on vacation and got home only to find the wall plug part of the charger is not in my bag. I assume I left it plgged into a wall socket where we stayed.

Would anyone know if any USB AC adapter will work with the NC. B&N want $25. for a replacement.

Also is the one supplied a universal adapter that will work in Europe and other world countries not using 110 volt

You can only fast-charge the NC with its original charger and cable. Using a different charger or cable will only tickle-charge the NC (so about 4 times slower). Furthermore, if you use the device while on tickle-charge, it will probably discharge the battery as it consumes more than the 500mA of tickle-charge.

The provided charger works for both 110 and 220/240V.

Device: NookColor & Nook Tablet. Sony PRS-505 loaned to brother.
Reminds me of the same issue with cell-phones at first. Branded gear keeps more money in the company. Apple has been doing it since day-one.

At least the charger is well made and works.

looking at the B&N charger it gives the following info
Input: 100-240V~50/60Hz 0.5A; Output: 5.0V 1.8A

I have seen some listed searching the net that have 5.0 v but with 1.0A.

Would these not charge at better than a trickle?

The USB standard is 500mA (.5a). You're not going to get higher than that via a standard usb cable, despite what the charger is capable of putting out.

Thus the proprietary cable.

The NC will charge (barely) if you use a standard micro USB cable and a wall charger. However, you've pretty well got to shut everything off on the NC and just let it sit there and charge for eight hours or so.

Not fun - as I discovered when the GF's son borrowed the NC cable because he needed a micro USB to transfer data off his phone. (Then he didn't bring it back when it didn't work for him.)

I have ordered a replacement from B&N and in the meantime I simply plug it into my PC overnight. I was down to under 20% yesterday and plugged it in at 12.30 a.m and it was fully charged in the morning. About 7.30 a.m.

I could probably live with this as would charge with the ac adapter overnight anyway but my PC is in the basement not as convenient and if I were spending lots of time reading I might need a quick charge before the evening

I have the cable its the ac wall plug adapter that I need. I would imagine using the units original cable you should get the maximum amps available from a wall adapter.
