I think hacking an ad supported kindle would really void your warranty. Amazon replaced a defective kindle for me with the screen saver and font hack; I don't think they'll be so generous with a hacked KSO.

Try Admuncher and your Hulu worries are over (and actually most other video ads).

I'm from Ireland and going to the US next week. I was going to buy the Kindle from the US online store (the only way to buy a Kindle in Ireland), but I had a look at the BestBuy website and came across the Special Offers Kindle.

If I buy an SO Kindle in the US, would it still function properly once I brought it home to Ireland?

enable showing of hidden and archive folders (windows file settings), then go to your kindle's root. Find the new, and shady, ninja "system" folder. Delete that EVIL .assets folder. Make a new text document named x.TXT. The go up one level. Press SHIFT+Right Click on system. Click "open command window here" then type:
rename x.txt .assets Then set the resulting file as read-only. Your kindle will display "Please connect wirelessly to download the latest ads" YAY!!!

Also, that's about the closest thing Amazon has ever come (and who knows, probably ever will come) close to custom screensavers.
