Just finished Hal Spacejock which was very giggle-worthy. Just started Flaming Dove by Daniel Arenson.

I've very glad I decided to read the first too first - while I could have followed things, having read the first two first made the novel better. A good conclusion to the Darkover series. Lots left, but many things tied up. Next: The Seven Dials Mystery by Agatha Christie. Her tenth book. |

Finished The Greatest Knight by Elisabeth Chadwick.
The book stands on its own but it's possible to continue the saga of William Marshal in The Scarlet Lion. Great book for anyone liking historical literature. Quote:

Just started on WWW: Wake, the first book of the WWW Trilogy by Hugo and Nebula Award winning author Robert J. Sawyer. So far it seems to be a very interesting novel, and I'm really looking forward to the entire series.
(Full disclosure: I picked up the series because in the third book of the series, WWW: Wonder, there is a mention by one of the characters of MobileRead.com. Although it's far from the first time a book has mentioned MR; as far as I know, it's the first time MobileRead's ever been mentioned in a work of fiction.) |

Just finished Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. Wow! What an incredible read!
It's long (over 600 pages), but so well written. And unlike a number of books I've read recently, the ending really wraps up all the details and is immensely satisfying (to me, anyhow). I read the last 150 pages or so all in a clip yesterday and was breathing hard by the time I finished the last page. Lots of themes I'm really into - family, being the foreigner, how location and culture affects the plot, etc. etc. Basically, one of the best reads I've stumbled onto in quite some time! |

Just found out about some local writers.
Although didn't manage to find much e-book material i've been thinking to start creating some of the books. Also found some nice books from Jules Verne. |

![]() Think it might be time for a re-read... I made the mistake of starting her "Bonk" before work the other day. I was almost late. I have "Spook" and "Stiff" on my TBR mountain, guess I should add this, too. Last edited by phenomshel; 04-18-2011 at 05:24 PM. |

Set aside Spirit Lens by Carol Berg, which I bought, in favor of Galore by Michael Crummey, which I am borrowing from the library. I'm only about 39 pages into Galore but it is good so far.
On audio, I am listening to Stephen King's The Wastelands, the third Dark Tower book. It is riveting stuff. I get to do that while I drive and do housework so I'm already `1/2 done. |

Having just finished a book I thoroughly enjoyed by Stephen Cox, I am now starting another of his titles, Confessions of a Dog Assassin. Its a bit of a departure from the norm to say the least.
The book is a collection of short stories with quite a range, everything from a bizarre story following a bull possessing the brain of a human to the headline story, a somewhat morbid tale about making some money on the side by 'bumping off' dogs. I am definitely becoming a fan of Cox's writing and as someone trying to get back in touch with literature, I would appreciate if anyone could turn me on to a few authors they think would be good for a read. P.S. I'm also fairly sure that all of his titles are e-book exclusives, i got mine on Amazon though they may be available on other sites |
