I can't believe all help I have received here!!!!
Thank you all so much....YOU ARE ALL AWESOME !!!! I am finding Calibre fantastic, it is so easy to use. Plus I now have the charging under control... lol. Thanks for all your help with that one Polly. I don't know about where you are but here in Australia the wall charger doesn't come with the unit. So I am now off to buy one. Alas... one last question. Is it normal to lose the 2nd L in words with 2 L's ( wall, ball)? It only happened when I converted a few books to ePub. It is so strange to read these words like that!!! No, it's not normal to lose letters! Conversions can lead to unexpected things though...
As for wall chargers, if you have one of those plugs you can attach a USB lead to it works well. I use that "all the time". (I use quotation, because it's not like I have to charge very often. A couple of times/month maybe. I make complete power off most nights, leave on standby during the day. Don't know how much difference one or the other makes though.) |

Thanks for your reply.
If I use any power pack thingy, does it have to have a certain voltage or anything? The power rating here is 240volts. ![]() |

Well, it of course has to be for you voltage, but most of these things are for 110-240 volts.
The output is around 5V, standard USB voltage, that's what counts for the reader. |

When you install Sony reader software it automatically launches whenever you hook up your device. If you use calibre you have to close the sony software before launching calibre (or turn off the auto sync)

I run Calibre and Sony software side by side, but I don't have auto-sync on. I have also turned off the auto-start of Sony software when connecting the reader.
It only starts when I'm handling library or other DRM books. |

I believe that Doreen was saying that Calibre can't check out library books. She was responding to a post that said that all Calibre can't do is buy from the Sony store; she added another limitation on Calibre, not on Reader Library.

Maybe the wrong interpretation, but the answer is only half wrong.
You CAN check out library books using ADE to download and loading/organizing with Calibre. While I commiserate with all things anti-Adobe, it's not like you need to use ADE for much. Run the .ascm file in ADE and it automatically downloads the EPUB. After that, close ADE and copy the epub into Calibre. It's still a personal choice between the Reader Library and Calibre, but the only things you Absolutely have to use the Reader Library for is buying from the Sony store and printing notes. |

Am I the only one who checks out library books directly from her library page? The reader store doesn't have built in support of my library though. Also, aren't the notes just XML files with weird extensions? It looks like all you lose are line breaks if you open it as an XML file. I suppose that would inconvenience people, but I doubt anyone's writing their great american classic in the notebooks. Or did you mean like, notes in the books themselves? (If so, how <i>do</i> you access those? I need to write a literary analysis of the Tempest like, tomorrow, and all my notes are in my reader. TRAPPED. FOREVER.) |

Just be careful that they're not both running at the same time. They both modify the same file on the reader. If they both do that at the same time, bad things happen.
