A Kindle is nothing more than a piece of button-worked plastic with an old-fashioned unnesseccary typewriter at one end, if you ask me. Its price just mirrors its worth. Actually it is on the expensive site of things given its outdated technology. But, yeah, heck, you can buy a book on the run.
I have a Sony too, BTW. It's a nice little device, especially as a supplement to my other ones. My Kindle still kicks it's butt though and it doesn't need a touchscreen(fingerprint magnet) to do it. It's faster, its store is better and its customer service is much better. But hey, the Sony has a shiny, pretty metal case.

I guess I'm a "semi-Luddite", then. All these years as an early adopter don't matter ... it's all about letting the number of features (or misfeatures) a vendor chooses to pile onto a device (no matter how junky and cheaply made the resulting device might be, because the price matters too) determine my buying decisions, not my needs. Gotcha.

Hopefully everyone else can read the sarcasm here.

P.S. It's you accusing people of being Luddites because they have no need for wireless access from their ebook readers that we're upset about. That's rude and uncalled-for, and you knew it when you said it.
Ok, did you not see the other posts slamming those who like the extra features?Oh, its all because that poster was agreeing with you. Gotcha.

Calling someone stupid because they enjoy being connected isn't insulting? Putting a little smiley face rolling its eyes in response to a post about liking the wifi in hotels isn't rude?Wow, the selective reading that occurs here is amazing.

You were the one who started name dropping! But it is like usually, those who attack the most viciously are those who start to whine first. Go home, weep in your teddy bear and come back to play with the adults when you are grown up.

(And how the h** is dealing with a webserver any easier than plugging in a cable??)
Yes, but you asked how to do it with a Kindle. Or you asked what was the use of wireless connection. The use is that you do not have to use cables. Cables is on the way out. Like paper books.

I admit to not having read every post in this topic. But apparently neither have you. If you had you would know that I am fully aware of DRM stripping and converting, but just prefer to not have to resort to it.

And I don't call anyone else names or tell them to calm down, cut down on caffein or whatever. On the contrary, I say that I respect other people's choices, and I take for granted that everyone make the right choice for them.

Therefore I don't call them "Luddites" or "technofreaks".

To compare models whose release dates differ on a year is not exactly fair play, but it shows your attitude quite efficiently.

As the current reader generation was delivered at the same time and has the same screen their page turn speed is the same, their readability is alike and they differ in the button vs. touchscreen technology. While the Kindle has 4GB internal memory as opposed to the Sonys 2 GB the Sony PRS 650 (and that is the one that you have to compare to the K3 as they are both 6inchers released at the same time) takes SD cards up to 32GB.

If we do a comparison of the K2 that'd be the one you'd have to hold up against your PRS 600, it won't look any better for the Kindle.

Kicks butt? In your wildest dreams. Dream on.

Um, no, I wasn't the first one to start name dropping. That happened back on page 3 or 4. But, I guess I hit a nerve though huh?

At any rate, who the heck do you think you are to tell anyone what to do? I suggest that you grow up- the mark of immaturity is having an inflated sense of self importance.

Just something to think about.

Apparently, cliques don't just appear in high school.

I wouldn't buy a reader that didn't have WiFi; 3G I'm not so bothered about, but WiFi is a must. For me, reading and buying books has nothing to do with a computer, so if I can cut it out of the process so much the better.<shrug>

So to avoid using a USB cable, I download library books to my computer, strip them of DRM then upload them to a webserver (which I don't have/use) so that I can then download them without wires to a Kindle (or any other WI-FI/3G reader)... wow, that really saves time and effort...

Eh? Read what I wrote. Everything else equal it is easier to use a wireless solution than a cable.

All people have access to Dropbox for example so all people have access to a web server. The mind set of finding problems and refusing to see that there might be unforeseen advantages is kind of semi-ludite. And it is argument from ignorance: Just because I now cannot see any advantage for me then there is not advantage for me.

I read what you wrote and I'm sure it works fine for you but the point people are trying to get through to you and others, is your solution isn't one which we want... firstly I don't want to buy another eReader, I'm happy with the ones I have (both listed and not yet added), secondly I don't want to put my files on the net in any form, this is why I have personal computing solutions rather than being a user of a mainframe... this was actually one of the whole points of PC when the first ones were released - Altair etc - to allow one to use one's own data on personal equipment without the great high priests of the mainframe... and now you and many others want to hand control of your data right back to third parties whom you don't know... I don't have a Dropbox, my ISP and other systems do but they are NOT mine, I may just have the use of them but that doesn't make them mine...

And as a sidenote... I think the word you meant is "Luddite" and it is offensive as is the accusation of ignorance... the "unforeseen advantages" ignore the equal likelihood of unforeseen and foreseen disadvantages. Don't confuse I don't want /am not interested in with you must do what I want... if it has advantages for you fine but kindly appreciate that just because that's the case, it doesn't invalidate its unsuitability for me as I don't want your solution, I want mine...

It is not a solution. Somebody asked how to do a specific task. It was not a suggested solution to buy another reader.

And my point is also that you actually do not know what you want unless you test things. People have a natural tendency to be conservative and stay with what they know.

And where do you get the idea that I haven't tested and used the things you're talking about... I implement and regularly set such things up for both clients and friends... do not confuse a personal choice not to do something with an inability to do it... that is both patronising and condescending...
