Softroot nook 1.5 serial 10040

I just recently picked up a nook from best buy with a serial starting with 10040 which I updated to 1.5. I understand that some with the 10039 serials are able to root with the no router method on nook devs (http://nookdevs.com/Rooting_New_Hardware_No_Router) I also found the nook 1.5 root and adb firmware update online. I was curious if it was safe to follow this method to root nooks with serials in the 10040 range.

The 1.5 update I found also was stated as untested on new hardware models, has anyone had success with 1.5 on the new hardware? If so could you point me in the direction of the update used. Thanks for any help!

From my understanding, the softroot method only works on old firmware as one of the step is to roll back to 1.0.0 firmware, which bricks the new firmwares.

If someone finally posts the way to make new hardware accept the rooted firmware, I will be one happy man!

Click the link in my original post, it's an easy way to root the nook on newer devices. It says it works up to 10030 and above, and I've heard talk of people using it on devices all the way up to 10039. I just wanted to make sure it was safe for 10040* serial numbers and also a link to nook update 1.5 with root and adb which is good for new hardware models (found a 1.5 on google, but says its untested with new models)

I exchanged a 10033 nook with 1.4.1 for a 10043 nook with 1.4.32 weeks ago, as there was a line running down the centre of the e-ink page. I had no trouble rooting the original nook, even though it was the new hardware, with the No Router method.

I have had no luck using exactly the same method with my exchanged nook. I get the file error message and I also get the book Don't Blink downloaded into ny B&N library so it looks like that part is working, but I am unable to to get an adb connection. I can ping the nook ok, so again the connection is there but adb does not connect.

I believe that the nook is actually refusing the connection, as when I try to do an adb connect to a non-existant IP address, it takes some time to come back with the unable to connect message, whereas when I try the adb connect to the nook address it comes back much quicker with the message.

Any ideas???

I have the same problem with # 100314...
I get the error message after downloading file, but impossible to get adb connection. Always "unable to connect to 192.168.2.101:5555".

This procedure is dangerous and too complicated to bother for the minor gain. As far as I concerned (I realize others want to play) the ability to read Kindle Books on the Nook is the only reason to root it.

If a simple way comes up that does not brick the device then maybe I will try it.

No need to root for that. I'm pretty sure a little handywork in Calibre will let you do that.

Not really. You have to remove the DRM and then you have rotten unreadable formatting when done.
