Apologies. I hate it when that happens. (those two were not on it but I did just recently clear my ignore list).

I don't know about America, but England was wrecked in the 80s by a government that decided it wanted everyone to be a mini-capitalist who owns shares in companies that used to be publicly owned anyway. It's the greed and selfishness that policy created in society as a whole that led to most of our current problems.

And if I said that this is exactly the reason for why it will work?? The evidence for either side of this argument is held within each individual mind (if such a mind even exists). The end of copyright is coming, just a matter of time now. You can't expect the network to just hold all this information in lockdown while the masses want for knowledge can you? Food via money must flow, so it would behoove us all to think of new systems that will allow for the transfer of money in a copyright free world.

You don't know much about evolution or human nature do you?

Quit being dumb and look around you. It'll never happen. This is not copyright we're talking about. This is survival, this is life, this is humanity.

If you want free. I'm more than willing to take your savings, retirement and whatever other labor you willing to give me for free. I suspect others are too. Hmmm. Let's think about that a bit.

Hey G. tell me where this is from:

Some possibilities:

In the midst of this massive, post apocalyptic science fiction novel, Kidd is writing poems. Here (it) becomes an extended meditation on the creation of art, how art works, where it comes from, how it suffers when it becomes a commodity, how the artists must finally face the reaction of the public. Not something I expected to find in a science fiction novel.

I don't want to point fingers, but who is this human you are talking about and what is their nature?

What we are talking about is an economic system where theft is irrelevant because there is nothing to steal.

Giggles, are you still peddling that Zeitgeist, resource-based economy, Jacques Fresco, no-one needs to own anything hoo-ey?? You got bit hard by the idealist bug didn't you? Life will kick that right out of you in time, so it's good that you're getting it out of your system, I guess.

Man has always remained consistent about two things:
1) This is Mine.
2) If you want Mine. It will cost you.

That. Won't. Change.

Is stripping drm illegal? (say, in the U.S.) I've heard that distributing drm removal software was illegal, but not the act of removing it itself. I've seen discussions regarding this but I forget what was concluded.

Thanks for all the replies. It has been a most enjoyable discussion. I find it hilarious how on almost every forum I've ever followed, good ol' U.S.Americans will eventually turn every discussion into a battle over life, the universe and everything.

Keep up the entertainment!

BTW - the practical and ethical arguments presented here have helped me decide not to make copies.

Funny how you like to quote the Buddha in your signature: "Strive on with awareness". In the Buddhist view, ignorance is an active process - choosing to ignore anything that doesn't fit with your view of "reality". I think there is a fundamental contradiction between your signature and your actions.
