There are still more big tornadoes forming up across the line in MS, heading this way right behind this first monster storm that is getting to Tuscaloosa right now.

NASCAR is trying to get all of the people camping at the Talladega speedway to be notified and sent somewhere safe. This is not a day to be in an RV. Nor Toto too!

EDIT: The big brute is still 50 miles away, but has been on the ground about an hour. They are saying that Geiger, Ala, looks like the whole town was swept with a rake.

ETA: Still windy, cold, and wet. We had a pretty bad power fluctuation earlier, set off Chris's battery backup and reset our cable modem. I'm hoping that was not a precursor of things to come, working during power outages (on backup power generator) is a pain.

You're making me shiver with the descriptions. I'd be in the basement by now, and I LIKE storms. It's way too cold here (40's) for what's hitting me to escalate, Dixie. And the precip. here looks like it's almost done - headed north up to Chicago. We seem to be in the back part of your loop, though, if you look at the radar, and they're calling for rain here for the next three days.

On this map, I'm in the clear area between the tornado warning around St. Louis and the precip in Chicago.

The TV stations keep being struck by lightning. The meteorologist filming Big Brute is beginning to get into trouble. He stayed put too long. His daughter is in the truck with him, and they are still broadcasting. OK, it passed him, so he is heading out to follow it.

My sirens just started. It is getting closer. The wind is finally beginning to pick up. I prefer it to that dead stillness, but would rather have neither. I guess it is time to change from sandals to sneakers, in case it gets down to running for our lives through glass and debris. But it is safe for me right now.
