From 1st April all Scottish prescriptions are now free of charge. Before that, prescription charges were no higher in Scotland than in England, and pre-payment certificates were also available in Scotland.

http://www.isd.scot.nhs.uk/isd/2237.html

Prescription charges have also been abolished in Wales and Northern Ireland, but before they were abolished, I'm sure that pre-payment certificates were also available there.

England currently has the highest prescription charges (i.e. any at all) of the four main parts of the UK.

prescriptions in Scotland were gradually decreasing each year since the last election, to £3.00 last year, and are now free to all. I bet the GPs close to the borders England/Scotland & England/Wales have an interesting time.

(of course, when we say free - we mean the money to pay comes from the Government; which means the tax-payer !)

the problem here is that there are so many different insurance agencies, that there is no rule of thumb. I, for instance, have no co-pay for anything

I have health insurance through my employer - we flip back & forth between Blue Cross & United Health Care - depending on who offers the lowest rates to the company. UHC is causing all my problems this year. And there is no legal recourse because they are not blocking me from having a prescription to the drug of my choice, they're simply refusing to cover its cost.

You might want to investigate your perscriptions parent pharma company. Alot of them provided coupon and discount programs for off-formulary drugs. My firm represents one of the pharma companies in the park and I see that sort of thing all the time. PM me if you want some more specific assistance, I'd be happy to see if I could find something for you.

Hang tough poohbear!! I understand your pain, not literally, but my wife gets them and they are terrible to watch. Luckily over the counter meds seem to work 50% of the time for her, can I ask what it is you take though? Maybe it is something that would work for her as well.

It blows my mind though how the can keep "losing" your paperwork!! It reminds me of all the foreclosure nightmares that you hear about, where one division of the company says "it's ok, pay us less" while another is foreclosing - it happens often enough that I find it hard to believe it is all accidents. They are either blatantly incompetent or intentionally deceitful.

There's two sides to every story but I know which side the insurance companies want to be on and always would be if there were no one watching.

The prescription drug I take is Axert. It's a member of the triptan group - which are effective against migraines. I tried them all and only Axert can knock out the pain without hideous side effects. Everyone reacts differently to these drugs - which is why it is absurd to mandate that everyone take the same (and cheapest) one.

Thank you everybody for your kind words and support - it really means a lot to me!

Pull all the cartridges and make sure the connectors are clean, Epsons are funny that way.

It's an Epson, it'll go
